Another winter storm & movie suggestion

Good afternoon.

As of now, plans are still for me to see the Groundhog early Monday morning. But, I am getting a little nervous since we have a new winter storm arriving. Latest check at the forecast says that the snow should start Monday afternoon, start to pick up even more Monday night and lasting into Tuesday. So, hopefully snow will not affect me seeing this event again, as it did last year. Stay tuned ...

Also, watched my first DVD from Netflix last night. Watched 'Mirrors' with Kiefer Sutherland. Very good film. Good thriller as well. And a ending you won't see a mile away. Definitely check it out. Now, as for my experience so far with Netflix, I have to say so far I am pleased. The DVD played in my player with hardly any skips, and if it happened, it just did for less than a second. Returning the DVD is easy too, just seal it and ship. Next movie in my queue: Lakeview Terrace with Sanuel L. Jackson.

Will keep you up to date with any updates on this latest winter storm. But Sunday should be nice, with high of 43 predicted.

Random Thoughts ... 1/28/2009

Good evening everyone.

Looks like we have survived the latest winter storm. Currently in Harrisburg it is Partly Cloudy and 31 degrees. Watch out for re-freezing tonight. Just moved my car and that was a little struggle. But got that taken care of.

Just a few thoughts I have this evening and I will let all of you go :)

1) I am proud to announce that I will be at Punxy for Groundhog Day come Monday. I don't know how I will do it, but I plan on live blogging this event in some fashion. More on that this weekend. It has been a few years since I been to Punxy and it will be a good time. I highly suggest all of you to take a pilgrimage to see Phil at least once in your life. More on that in a good sized essay come Monday.

2) Glad to see that the DTV deadline will still be in February. Maybe now people will get their butts into gear.

That is all for now. Hope all is well.

-- Matt

UPDATE: DTV Deadline still Feb. 17th

The US House of Representatives has shot down the Senate bill, trying to delay the DTV conversion.

Good job. This may be the only time I agree with Republicans. So, take note, This is a rare thing.

Disappointed in the FCC ...

Good evening.

So, one of this evening's lead stories is the topic of this brief editorial. Looks like the US Senate has approved this evening the digital television deadline be EXTENDED until June 12th, 2009. It was originally to be done by 2/17/2009. They say the reason for this is because there is millions of Americans are not ready still for the transition to digital television.

This is a bad decision for television stations across America. Millions have been spent already on this. Stations like WGAL have done excellent work in preparing Susquehanna Valley television watchers for this. Keep in mind, we have been getting ready for this for nearly 2 years! The laziness of a few is keeping us from fully getting this done.

They say that perhaps as 10% of people are still not ready, mostly being low-income and elderly people. Let me be frank about this, I really doubt these people even if time was extended will do this transition. Nothing against them, but if they had all this time to get ready and they didn't get ready, what makes you think they will now?

The article I linked also mentioned that as many as 3 million people are still waiting on the coupons. OK. So they are still waiting. They will get their coupons soon. But still, why did they have to apply for coupons so late?

Personally, I have been DTV ready since April 2008. I have my satellite TV ready to go, and I have my antenna set up separately if I wanted true HD programming.

Why I am do also so disappointed in this is because WHP-TV will not be avaliable to me over the air digital until June. Most would think that if I live 10 miles from the tower, that I should get their HD signal. Not so. The FCC reports that WHP's analog signal is very very strong, and their digital signal is very weak. So now, I will have to wait until June to see my CBS shows I like, including My Network TV 21.2.

All because some people delayed making this choice. Gee, thanks a lot. Now, get your butts into gear.

Finally, it is my hope that television markets and stations across the nation make their own decision when to post-transition. Some markets could go now, if they really wanted to. It is also my hope that family members help out other family members that are confused or need to convert over. Once people realize how much better digital TV is, they will wonder why they didn't go before.

So, for those who are delaying this ... Thanks alot for delaying the future.

Ranrom Thoughts: 1/25/2009

Good Sunday Morning.

Just a few thoughts this Sunday Morning.

First of all, I attened the exhibition game for the Harrisburg Stampede last night. Patriot-News reported that over 3,000 people were there. Not a bad turnout. First half of the game wasn't too impressed. Looks like the QB for the team just arrived into Harrisburg last night from South Carolina. So, they benched him in the 2nd half and then they exploded. The final score was 46-26. I think with over a month off before the first official game, they have a good chance to polish their skills and I think they will be a good factor for their season, that starts officially in March. Oh, and yes, a week after the farm show ended, the building inside did smell like farm animals. I think this is also a good chance for the Farm Show Complex to shine this year. They booked even more events there this year, and this only helps this unique venue to shine. Go Stampede.

Finally this morning, I am now officially on Twitter. I meant to sign up for some time, I think that you should think about joining. Twitter is like facebook, but a more bare boned type service. What seperates Twitter apart is that you update your status by either text message, or web, in less than 140 characters. Very neat. Email me personally if you want my link/profile to follow me. No creepy people though, ok?

Hope you have a great day. Will try to post something later today.

Tech OPINION: Worried About ITunes

There is three distinct steps for a person to become a Apple/Macintosh convert user:

1) Download iTunes for your music library.

2) Buy an iPod.

3) Buy a Macintosh/Apple computer.

Getting a Macintosh/Apple computer is probably one of the best investments you can if you are a power computer user. They are simplier and easier to use. They are much more stable than Windows computers. The main reason for this is that Mac OS X uses UNIX for it's core system.

There was moments that I thought I would convert back to a Windows user, but Macintosh has me for life. It was one of the best consumer decisions I ever made.

However, I feel that since 2009 has started, I think that iTunes has gone down hill. It has to do with iTunes decision to make most if not all of their songs with the 'iTunes Plus' download format.

Here is what that is: ITunes Plus is a format in where the songs are twice the size as regular downloads. Plus it is DRM-free, in where you can give the songs and copy them to friends.

I will be frank and serious here: I HATE iTUNES PLUS. Where I live in West Hanover Twp, there is not DSL connections avaliable. I could go Comcast, but I don't like how big they have become.

I fully believe that iTunes Plus is the biggest rip-off ever to music lovers. Why I believe this is because of the bigger file download. Typically a 1 minute song is 1MB. With iTunes Plus, 1 minute song is 2MB. That means that your hard drive gets filled twice as fast. It is nothing but a horrible money making scheme, all to say 'crystal clear sound'. Yeah right.

When I read Wikipedia this morning about the iTunes store, my fears has become reality. They report that as of January 6, 2009, 80% of the songs on iTunes is iTunes Plus. In April 2009, 100% will be iTunes plus. 100%?! I hope this is a bad early attempt of an April Fools joke, but I don't think so.

Apple, let me be clear. If Apple continue to do this, I will be forced not to use their music store. I don't want that. My music collection is quite impressive. I have close to 4,900 songs on my iPod. From Sinatra to Marlyn Manson ... from Nirvana to Jonas Brothers. If any music station took a chance and put my library on the radio, they would go from last place to first in 6 months. I highly believe in that.

In conclusion, iTunes is making a huge mistake. I don't see any up-side with iTunes Plus. I dare somebody to bring me down on this topic. But, I don't see any.

Where's the Flag???

In hopes to get this before the Linglestown Gazette notices, I have one question ...

Where is the flag at the flagpole in Linglestown? Since the PennDOT fake Christmas tree like figure was dismounted from the pole, the flag is not there.

Bring it back. It is more or less like a citizen of the town, greeting everyone who passes by the square. I know you will agree.

Newsbrief: 1/22/2009

Good afternoon.

Looks like we are about to warm out out there, with highs possibly in the lower 40's by tomororw. Gonna be good to feel that.

Some news and bits for you this Thursday afternoon:

Every presidential administration has some trouble getting adjusted to the new White House. When 43 came into the White House, his aids found the 'W' key missing from the keyboard. Well, now the Obama administration has trouble adjusting as well. The Washington Post reports in this story that looks like the Bush administration was so backwards with technology. Computers as old as 6-years-old, among other things. Well, that time is over now, eh?

Congratulations go to The Patriot-News here in Harrisburg. Their Obama front page from the day after the November historic election has been showcased in a good book showcasing the best front pages from the Nov. 5th newspapers. The Patriot-News was chosen as one of 75 newspapers nationally and internationally to be inside this historic book. I am putting a link here from Barnes & Noble. For only $12, a good deal. Again, congrats to The Patriot-News.

And finally, looks like Caroline Kennedy has decided to bow out of the closed race to replace Hilary Clinton as the Senator from the state of New York. Maybe that is not a good thing. This person needs to be well known, and frankly, even though she is a Kennedy, America don't know her all that too well.

Have a great day.

Best Newspaper Front Pages

So, yesterday was a very historic day ...

How best to capture that moment than by listing (in my opinion) the best newspaper front pages from the USA. Complied through Newseum's website. It is probably best that you right click the links and open new window and/or tab. Make sure you see these today however, because these are not forever links.

1. The Tuscaloosa News - Tuscaloosa, AL.
2. Arizona Daily Star - Tuscon, AZ.
3. The Fresno Bee - Fresno, CA.
4. Oakland Tribune - Oakland, CA.
5. Pueblo Chieftain - Pueblo, CO.
6. St. Petersburg Times - St. Petersburg, FL.
7. The Times - Gainesville, GA.
8. Daily Herald - Arlington Heights, IL.
9. Star-Tribune - Minneapolis, MN.
10. The Patriot-News - Harrisburg, PA.
11. The Salt Lake Tribune - Salt Lake City, UT.
12. Green Bay Press-Gazette - Green Bay, WI.

And for kicks ... how about some international newspapers:
13. The Courier-Mail - Brisbane, Australia
14. Jamaica Observer - Kingston, Jamaica
15. Virgin Islands Daily News - Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands.

If you can't view it today. Do not fear. The Newseum site will more than likely have this on archieve soon. This should be another great banner day for newspapers. Notice that I had to include Harrisburg's Patriot-News. Personally, I don't think it was as good as the Election Day result headline, but still, a 2 page poster sized front is a nice and grand idea.

And people say that newspapers are dead! Take that, internet!

What a day ...

First of all, thanks to B2 of Linglestown Gazette blog for that shout out. Thank you. Do appreciate it.

I don't know about you .... but ... what a day to be an American! We witnessed history as the United States of America has now it's 44th President. Just gives you a warm feeling in your soul to see what all happened today. We should be happy and fortunate to see and know that we live in a country such as this. Congrats, Barack.

Also heard on the news that the Arizona home of Donavon McNabb was flag-raided with the Arizona Cardinals flag put up on his property. Funny moment.

Finally, we have a quiet week weather wise here coming. Temps should warm up a bit, with a high of 41 predicted for Friday. Bring on the warm weather. However, next week, might be a different story. There might be a coastal low developing and it might bring us some snow. Stay tuned.

Have a great night.

The eve before the dawn ...

Good evening everyone.

Just a few bits and pieces before I bring you this evening's special commentary ...

First of all, sorry for not posting much this past weekend. I decided to rest a bit this weekend, so I took it easy. Plus, I have encountered more trouble with the Google Reader program. So for now, I will just post things that I find current and interesting. Keep in mind that I am not permanently letting go of the 10 stories. I found it interesting doing those posts. Just only for a short period of time. I need to find a better way to get it to you.

Next, how about them Philadelphia Eagles! As a long time Cowboys fan, I found this to be quite exciting and justice served. ESPN reported this evening that for now, Andy Reid and Donavon McNabb's jobs are safe. Really? If you keep the same people in the same posts, you get the same results. Eagles fans, stand up, be heard. You want better, and as a city, you deserve better too. But know Philly, my loyalty always has, and always will be with the Dallas Cowboys. Also, Go Arizona! The way I think of it, Steelers been to the Super Bowl before. But not Arizona Cardinals. So, go team. Congrats.

Finally, what an evening here in America. We have endured 8 years of failed leadership in America, and tomorrow at 12 Noon (eastern time), we will have a new president. Obama has bold and great ideas for this grand nation. And I am quite glad to see this happen. NBC News reported that out-going VP Dick Cheney strained his back packing. Oh really? Just funny. Tomorrow will be a historic day for this nation. We all should be proud of what we all have accomplished.

As they say ... Out with the old, in with the new. Isn't America great?

Take care. Post soon.

Winter Postcard ...

Taken this afternoon at Chocolate Cafe, Linglestown, PA. Snow was falling at the time and I think it's a beautiful picture. Enjoy!

10 Stories Preview

Well good evening everyone. Still cold out. Last time I checked, it is about a mere 10 degrees out.

I plan on catching up on some sleep this weekend. I miss that.

Before I compile tonight's 10 stories, thought I would do a mini-review for the movie I caught tonight ...

PAUL BLART: MALL COP

The first movie I seen so far this year is the comedy from Kevin James.  Now, I know I really don't like Adam Sandler.  His movie company, Happy Madison, made this film.  So, even though I may have had some reservations in seeing this film, I can honestly say I kept and open and clear mind about this movie.  And I am glad that I did.

This movie is about a mall cop who on Black Friday has his mall invaded by skate-boarding, acrobat thugs.  Yeah, I know, juvenile.  But really, that is really the only bad thing I can say about this movie.  The comedy is fresh, especially the Victoria Secret fight scene.  And overall, good movie.

Again, if you just see it and don't think too much, you will find that it is a good movie.

6 Stories ... 1/15/2009

Good evening. Today is Thursday, January 15, 2009.

Well, it's cold out.  And overnight it is only going to get even more cold out.  So, make sure you dress properly tomorrow to work and hopefully we will warm up to more respectful temps.  Finally about the temps out ... I know now why Sarah Palin don't like the lower 48 states .... it's warmer right now in Alaska then here.  Amazing.

Now, time for today's 6:

1:  We start this evening with a event that has been 8 years in the making.  And it couldn't have come at a more appropriate time.  Mr. Bush gave his last nationwide speech to the nation, just days before the national nightmare called his term in office, is about to expire.  Details on his speech from National Public Radio (NPR), and a full transcript of the speech from Faux News.

2:  Now an update to a story I posted earlier this evening.  A US Airways plane had to make a emergency landing at the Hudson River.  Everyone survived, but nerves were rattled, because of the nightmare of 9/11.  An amazing story of what happened from WGHP-TV High Point, NC.

3:  Looks like we now know what the new first-dog will be.  It will probably be a 7-month old Laberpoodle, named Sydney.  Details form WTTG-TV Washington, DC.

4:  Bad news for one of America's most beloved co-hosts of late night television.  Citibank won in court against Ed McMahon.  He owes them close to $200,000 in debt.  Story from KTRV-TV Nampa, ID.

5:  An interesting story now about a couple who went out for their anniversary dinner, but never returned.  Now, they are missing.  Details on this mystery from ABC News.

6:  If crime is a regular activity in your neighborhood, would you want to know?  Or do you want to find out for yourself?  I think most would choose the first choice.  But that is what they are doing in a New Orleans neighborhood.  But some think this is not a good idea.  Story from WDSU-TV New Orleans, LA.

More stories tomorrow.

Have a good evening.

DEVELOPING STORY: NYC plane emergency lands in Hudson River

In a still developing story, but a story with a relieved outcome ... A US Airways flight en route from Laguardia to Charlotte, made a emergency landing in the Hudson River, when what was described as a 'birdstrike' affected the plane.

The plane made a emergency landing, and all people from the plane have been safely evacuated and had been accounted for.

Here is some coverage from numerous angles:

A 10 stories will come later this evening.

10 Stories ... 1/14/2009

Sorry about not posting 10 Stories last night. These early days are really getting to me now. But with me being off today, I have time and energy to do it now.

Before the 10 stories, how about American Idol last night? It's back and better than ever. Auditions were good, even though it seemed more spaced out than last year. However, it was good. And how about bikini girl? What a moment in Idol history. You think Ryan really got into the pool with her? Anyhow, good premiere. More tonight from Kansas City.

Now, time for today's 10.

1: After a horrific year for her family life, Jennifer Hudson finally has a bright break to come back in 2009. NFL has confirmed that she will be singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, February 1st. 2nd year in a row, by the way, that an American Idol alum was chosen to sing it. Don't worry, I am sure she will not mangle it. Story from WJLA-TV Washington, DC.">WJLA-TV Washington, DC.

2:  A Pennsylvania couple will spend time before when they went on a spending spree when $175,000 was accidently put into their bank account.  Details from KTRV-TV Nampa, ID.

3:  Tampa, the home of this year's Super Bowl was named the most caffeinated city in America.  Kinda seems about right, eh?  Pepped up fans, caffeine pumping through their bodies.  Story from digg.com.

4:  Dallas Cowboys great Michael Irvin was a victim of a crime, in North Dallas.  Someone pulled a gun out on him.  And the thing that makes it even crazier ... they were Dallas Cowboys fans.  I expect Philadelphia Eagles fans to pull crap like this, not Cowboys fans.  Get real people.  Details from KDFW-TV Dallas, TX.

5:  The coldest air to hit the Susquehanana Valley in about 5 years is about to hit the midstate.  Story here from KCCI-TV Des Moines, IA helps your house and car weather this frigid air.

6:  A teenage mom is in some hot water after she left her newborn baby alone at home, and the baby was surfing the Internet.  Details on this stupid mom from WPXI-TV Pittsburgh, PA.

7:  Perhaps this story needs to wait til Sunday.  If it even happens.  But Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell made a Super Bowl bet .... with himself.  Story from WGAL-TV Lancaster, PA.

8:  Now a good American Idol 8 Season Premiere in review article from WPVI-TV Philadelphia, PA. They call idol 'first class karaoke'.  What a name.

9:  You heard of double parking, and you heard of road rage ... but now let's put snow-rage on the list.  In Chicago, some people think if you dig your spot out of the snow, and you move your car from that spot, that spot is yours.  Period.  The city disagrees, and so do I.  Story from WMAQ-TV Chicago, IL.

10:  And finally, before I end this 10 stories, how about a story about the place where I am about to go to.  Looks like the Farm Show is doing good business.  Especially that first-class food court.  Story from The Sentinel - Carlisle, PA.

Have a great day.

9 Stories ... 1/12/2009

Good Evening.

Pretty busy day for the outgoing President .. Mr. Bush.  In fact, the first 2 stories deal with him, as looks like he will have a busy week.

1:  In his last full week in his Presidency, Mr. Bush gave some final advice to Barack Obama .... do what you think is right.  Details here from KWCH-TV Hutchinson, KS.

2:  Mr. Bush will give his final speech as President on Thursday night.  I wonder if he will try to scare us, one final time.  Also, I wonder why he would this, since his approval ratings are at virtually zero.  Story now from WKOW-TV Madison, WI.

3:  Eagles fans watch out .... not only if everything is right with the world, you will lose Sunday, but looks like tickets for the Cardinals game is .... SOLD OUT!  Not only are they sold out, but they did in an mind-blowing 6 minutes!  Also, tickets are only for Arizona residents .... how awesome.  Details from KVOA-TV Tucson, AZ.

4:  In a sign of the times article, the US Army had to turn away close to 50,000 possible recruits from enlisting in this nation's military .... Why?  Because they were obese.  Story from WPXI-TV Pittsburgh, PA.

5: Looks like if you want to prevent colds, all you have to do is just simply sleep.  Interesting research has been completed in where this finally may be true.  Details from The Pantagraph - Bloomington, IL.

6:  What will one of President Obama's first executive orders be when he gets into office?  Close to him say it will be closing the U.S. military prison Guantanamo Bay.  Something that should've been done YEARS ago. Story from WKYT-TV Lexington, KY.

7:  First the ultimate college football tool Tim Tebow announces that he is staying at Florida for his senior year ... Now he undergoes shoulder surgery.  Details from WKMG-TV Orlando, FL.

8:  South Central's PA best and longest serving TV station, WGAL turns 60 this year.  Quite a milestone.  I think all of us has memories of Channel 8 throughout the years.  Well, now it is your time to share them.  WGAL wants your comments, photos and videos you have of WGAL though the years.  Here is the link for all the info.  WGAL is so great.

9:  Some people cry over spilled milk .... well people near the Farm Show had to literally drive through it.  A overturned tanker spilled milk over US 322 near I-81 in Harrisburg.  Details from WHP-TV Harrisburg, PA.

24 Season 7 Premiere: Part I ...

IN REVIEW:
Well, the day has come and the time has arrived.  It is a pleasure to say to my '24' fans ...

JACK IS BACK!!

Oh yes, the greatest made-for-tv American hero since John Wayne has come back to the TV scene this evening in great fine fashion.  And some shocking events have already happened to start the 7th season.

The season begins with action, right in the first minute as a computer programmer was kidnapped as his daughter was left there helpless.  He had to re-program a computer circuit board to gain control of airplane air control towers.  As that happens, the FBI asks for Jack Bauer.  Jack was being questioned by a stern and hot-headed senator who absolutely knows nothing about the good deeds that Jack has done for the country.

Jack gets off the hook and he then learns that his former parter and close friend, Tony Almedia is the one behind the latest firewall attacks.  Jack does not believe that but yet he agrees to find Tony and bring him to justice.

Meanwhile, the new President, 24's first female president has quite a handful of her own to deal with.  The Africa sub-plot during last months' 2-hour prequel came back to light when she authorizes military action against the made up nation.  As that happens, Tony and his new goon friends show their demonstration of the taking over of the air-control tower by actually remotely taking over the air transmissions to 2 planes and almost making them collide into each other.

Meanwhile, the President's husband is making trouble of his own.  His son, committed suicide, however he feels that it was foul play was afoot.  So, he hired a private investigator and he found out that his late son's girlfriend had $400K put into a off shore bank account, 4 days after his 'accidental' death.  The First Gentlemen confronts the girlfriend, and of course she denies and don't know anything at all.  He gets mad and vows to find the truth.

Tony releases the kidnapped computer programmer to a new guy who works for him.  He takes the guy to a secret bunker where one of the bad African general guys is.  Of course, he is there secretly and he says that he wants to talk to the President.

Finally, Jack finally finds Tony.  Jack roughs up Tony and asks, "What the hell happened to you?"  Indeed.  Touche.  What the hell happened.

PERSONAL THOUGHTS:
Well, all of us have thought what would 24 be like if it left Los Angeles, where it has been for the past 6 seasons.  We all thought, what would 24 be like if there was no CTU ... Well worry no more.  Personally, I was nicely surprised.  The writers are back.  The action is back.  Jack is back.  How much more do you want?

The 2 night 24 premiere continues Monday.  More action is coming.  Isn't January great???

-- matt

... Oops, it happened again ...

Yes, the Eagles won .... again.

Seriously, what is it going to take to get this done, and have them get to the off season?  Is it the silly beard theory that is making them do this?  Was it the wind?  How can this just happen?  How can a 9-6-1 team in the regular season win games and now is in the NFC championship game?

What makes me just boiled over right now is the even mention and think that they made it further now than my Cowboys did last year.  Ugh.

Now it's up to the Cardinals.  In Arizona.  Two species of bird ... One outcome.  Go Cardinals.  Seriously, bring it Arizona.  Really.

This is the only post I will have on this for the next week, til the last game.  More and more I think about writing on this, the more mad I get.  Come to think about it even more ... I think most broadcast media want Eagles in this ... ESPN definitely after the Adam "Pacman" Jones crucification earlier today ... FOX because of the anti-Cowboy Troy Aikman ... I am just sick of it all.

10 Stories ... 1/10/2009

Good evening.  Time for some news you can read and use.  Until I change my mind again and/or until further notice, I am going back to 10 stories a night.  I personally feel that is plenty for one time to digest.  I hope you agree.  Time for tonight's 10:

1:  So, the country of Israel is saying that it's defending it's country as it continues to fight Hamas inside the Gaza Strip.  Well, some people are saying that perhaps it is using too much force.  Story from The Daily Item - Sunbury, PA.

2:  Several days ago, I posted a story about the friendly city bet for the playoff games.  Well, here is another story about that.  This time, New York vs. Philly.  Details from WNYW-TV New York, NY.

3:  A huge celebrity wedding happened this weekend.  Fergie was wed to Josh Duhamel.  The wedding happened in Malibu, California.  Story from KABC-TV Los Angeles, CA.

4:  Now, the other side of the coin, when you lose sports bets.  Oklahoma Daily, the college newspaper for the University of Oklahoma reports that the junior senator from Oklahoma has to sing Elton John's "Rocket Man" for payback for Florida's win.

5:  Time to focus on one of the most underplayed great artists that came out in 2008.  The Examiner from San Francisco does a feature article on UK artist, Estelle.  She had the hit 'American Boy' that featured Kanye West back in 08.  Let me tell you, her album 'Shine' was one of the best albums of last year.  Once you read the article, you will have a better understanding of this great hidden talent artist.

6:   Here is another sign that the national/world nightmare of W is nearly over.  Mr. Bush officially takes his last trip aboard Air Force One.  Details now from ABC News.

7:  In what was probably a very surreal and photographic moment, President-Elect Barack Obama and his family visited the Lincoln Memorial.  Story from WPVI-TV Philadelphia, PA.

8:  And speaking of photographs, it has been 40 years since the first photos of our planet, Earth has been published.  Interesting article follows here from digg.com via Earthrise.

9:  Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez is trying to make headlines once again.  Now he says that a US Embassy official is trying to plot against his country from Puerto Rico.  Details from The San Diego Union-Tribune - San Diego, CA.

10:  Finally this Saturday night, what nation will Obama visit when he becomes president? Well, he won't have to travel far, it will be Canada.  Story from CBS News.

Have a great rest of your Saturday.  Coming up Sunday on my blog:  Hopefully a farewell post about the stinking Eagles ... a 24 Part I of II premiere review ... and another 10 stories.  Until then .... good night, and good luck.

Things to to this week ...

Well the winter storm is here ...

Winter Weather Advisory for much of the mid state until 4AM Sunday. 2-4 inches is expected for much of South Central PA. Roads are getting snow covered here.

Anyway, here is some things you should do this week for enjoyment and or to be informed:

1) Watch, "Outside The Lines" on ESPN Sunday at 9AM. Even though Pacman's days as a Cowboy is over, it's time to see what ammunition they have on this guy. It's no secret ESPN has a anti-Dallas Cowboys slant, but will Pacman's cat be out of the bag perse?

2) Keep up to date with the Eagles/Giants game. Is it just me, or is it time for the Eagles to go into the off season? After humiliating my Cowboys, it's time for revenge. Go Giants. Oh and a note for Andy and Donavon: Your pink slips will be waiting for you back at the Linc. Enjoy, losers.

3) Watch, "24" on FOX starting at 8PM, then repeat on Monday night. 24 is an awesome show that is about to enter it's 7th and hopefully it's best season yet. It's been about 2 full years since a 24 premiere was aired. If you want to be entertained, this is a sure bet. Oh yes, Jack is back!

4) Go to the Pennsylvania State Farm Show in Harrisburg. With ample parking and shuttles running I say about every 10 minutes from 9AM to 9PM and only $8 parking, there is no reason why not to go. Here is a tip: If you park at the bakery, the Boy Scouts allow you to park for $5. Go and support this worthy cause. Anyway, make sure you eat some of the following things: Mozzarella cheese cubes (3 on a stick, yes, it is fried cheese heaven), potato doughnuts, french fries, some cider to wash it down, and a lot other things. But check out all the other exhibits and things. Another tip, don't wear your best shoes. You'll thank me later.

I will have more if I think about it. If you go out, take your time and be careful.

So, why not one more scare tacit. Well, Dick Cheney says North Korea helped Syria build a nuclear power plant. Of course in Dick's world, it's for evil. Crazyness from WKOW-TV Madison, WI.

11: Another classic arrogant article about Dick Cheney. This one is about the ecnomic mess. He said that no one could have seen this economic depression coming? Really? While America was getting poorer, your pockets were getting heavier. Give me a break. Details from WWSB-TV Sarasota, FL.

12: The United States Coast Guard is investagating why there has been 10 fake distress calls since December. Interesting story from WTEV-TV Jacksonville, FL.

Another Winter Event Coming ...

And this is why they call this Farm Show Weather ...

// begin

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STATE COLLEGE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF SIX INCHES OR MORE ARE POSSIBLE FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT IN ASSOCIATION WITH AN APPROACHING STORM SYSTEM MOVING EASTWARD THROUGH THE OHIO VALLEY. SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN MAY MIX IN AT TIMES ACROSS THE SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND LOWER SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW... SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.

// end

However, just watched News 8 @ 5 and Doug Allen seemed to downplay the storm. He said that the threat of storm should be low and that the storm track is too uncertain to make a full prediction.

I will keep you up to date with all the latest and will post an update as necessary.

Stand by for a 15 stories.

Pacman fallout continues ...

Good morning.

Well, looks like it was maybe a good thing that we let go of Adam "Pacman" Jones.

ESPN reports this morning that Adam Jones arranged for a person to shoot at three Atlanta men after his NFL suspension back in 2007.

If that is the case, good for Jerry Jones to let this clown go.

2009 Cowboys season must be a season without any more drama. This is just part of that new policy of the Dallas Cowboys.

P.S. A fresh 15 stories come this evening.

BREAKING COWBOYS NEWS ...

I will try to get a 15 stories tonight. But I just may wait for tomorrow.

Anyhow, breaking Dallas Cowboys news this evening ...

Complete coverage of this is at the link above.

As for my view on this, I guess this was going to happen. I wonder if this will be only the beginning of players let go, like Brad Johnson. But I have to say, I think my first instant reaction is just a little bit of disappointment. I mean, sure, Pac Man had his history and drama of the year and his past with previous NFL teams. I thought that we were going to be the team to bring him back and bring his feet to the ground. The Cowboys organization has officials and people who help with his trouble players. I guess their job wasn't done either.

Another article on that blog say that Adam Jones himself is surprised. I guess we all are. Or maybe not.

With my travels and past dealings with Georgans, somehow I am not surprised. Give me a break. Story from WXIA-TV Atlanta, GA.

Philadelphia 26 - Minnesota 14

Well ...

Once again, Philadelphia Eagles except certain death, on the road.

Next stop, Giants, at the Meadowlands. Please NY, take care of business next week. At least 2 of my friends are going to try to get tickets. And I have to hear more Eagles dribble for yet another week. Even my grandmother (who is a Steelers fan) was cheering. Cheering for what? Hell, she can't even name 2 Steelers players for god sakes.

All this, and Baltimore Ravens won also on the road today. So, Miami is out.

So, it is official, I really don't care about this Super Bowl. It is becoming more and more likely this will be a commercial/halftime viewing Super Bowl.

What a depressing day ...

Now, is this really what God had in mind when he called Israel his 'chosen' nation? I think not.

A quiet Thursday

Hello everyone.

I hope you are all having a great New Years. About to eat here in a bit and then watch the PSU game. Go Penn State! Just a few things I found on the web earlier today that I wanted to share:

1) If you are into music just as much as I am, you are gonna love this. On my celly, I have a 'Music ID' program that allows me to check what songs are over the cell phone. Most of the time it works and for $3.99/month, it is definately worth it. But one of my good friends have found this, a program called Midoni. Not only is it a social networking website, but you can 'humm' your song and it will ID it for you. Talk about ubercool.

2) While we are on technology and music, New York Times reports that there is a new 'iBreath' technology for your iPod in where you blow into the device and it measures your BAC (Blood Alcohol Content). I love my iPod, but this is just silly.

I should have 15 stories for you back and running by Friday. Have a great New Year's.
