Cowboys Post: Deja Vu (4th Year runnning)

Well, we lost again, and this time I'm madder than hell.

You know, if things work out, I should be getting my Dallas Cowboys #82 Jason Witten jersey on Monday. I really got a great deal on this authentic jersey from a friend of mine. Know what would really be great to go with that jersey??? A win. But no, even that can't be done.

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the San Diego Chargers, 20-17 today, and in a sense, the season is over. Ware, one of our star players, exited the game with a sprained neck. That and poor coaching, especially at 4th & Goal, made us lose the game.

Yeah, Romo was OK this game, but still, did we win? No. As of now, the Eagles are winning against the Giants. If the Giants win, Cowboys become 7th seed, season over. Eagles win, more boastful talk from a horrible fan base. Cowboys are really damned if we do, and damned if we don't.

Saturday night, we play the unbeatable New Orelans Saints, in New Orleans. Can we beat them? Highly unlikely. You would think with Ware in the hospital, and the way we played that will give us hope. But, me as the eternal realist thinks we might as well just forefit this game.

I love my Cowboys, and been a loyal fan since like age 5. Our season is over.

I really hate December. Why is December so cruel to my team? I think I have a solid reason as to why. ROMO went on vacation to Vegas. Again, partying it up, when his head should be in the game. If it was one year with this theory, I might just ignore it and not publish it. But friends, THIS IS HAPPENING NUMEROUS YEARS. THIS IS MORE THAN A HABIT. 4 years in a row with a unfavorable losing December & January.

This is not what the Cowboys that I know. Now, Monday will come, and the Eagles fan base will roost their feathers and boast at how good they will be. The Giants fans from a popular take out place I go to will say, "Hey, How Bout Dem Cowboys." It will be like a bad nightmare, all over again. And then, that jersey I bought. Yeah, Witten is a solid player and I will wear it with pride. But really, what's the point?? Seriously.

I want Wade Phillips fired now. Bring in Tony Dungy. Hell, bring in Michael Irvin. Bring in someone who wants to have a winning season. Bring in someone who wants to reverse our December curse. Bring in someone who cares and gives a damn about America's team. Because as of now, that spirit is just not there.

Again, I want my Super Bowl dammit. It just won't be this year.

OK, time for another Tony Romo rant blog entry. But this time, it's not only him, but also our defense.

For the past 3 years, we have been plagued as Dallas Cowboys fans for not having great December/January records. Well, if 4th time's the charm, we didn't disappoint the stat keepers.

Yeah, Romo's stats was was alright, about 80% completion, but I want perfection.

Like I said numerous times, this year is different. I want my Super Bowl title dammit, and Romo, if you refuse to be perfect, then son, I want Kitna in.

I don't want people saying 'Have faith, Romo will get us through." Time for appeasement and feel good optimism is over. This is the year for this to be done. Romo, either you are with the Cowboys in this quest, or you're not.

Considering what you have done in the past, I want Kitna in. Oh, and yes, everyone in Cowboys nation KNOWS you went to VEGAS. This is partly the reason why we did not do good today. YOU DID NOT HAVE YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME.

Now, because of Romo and our defense that wasn't it's usual self, we are tied with the bastard 'Iggles, yet again. This alone makes me mad. Now we have to really watch what cards they come up their sleeve.

In closing, Romo ... are you with us or against us? Let Wade know by the end of tomorrow, so we can prep Kitna. I'm serious. Sit down son, we are moving on, with or without you.

What Was Old, is Again New ...

It only took about 11 months, but looks like what was old, is new again.

Yesterday evening, President Obama ordered 33,000 more American troops to go to Afghanistan, but there will be a troop pull out by the Summer of 2011.

Mr. President, I this is not what I voted you into office for. Sir, I am sure all of the voters who voted for you too, feel the same feel as well.

Mr. President, we are not the world's police. That is what the U.N. is for. We need our troops to come home. That is what you PROMISED us during the campaign.

However, like all politicians who have power, you went back on your word.

It only took 11 months, but looks like more and more everyday, you are turing into the next President Bush.

I don't blame you tho for this Sir, I blame our former president. I know this was not the decision you wanted to make. I can see the stress of the office for the past 11 months as taken a severe toll on you, as it does every occupant of that fabled and storied job.

Sir, Bush is not president anymore. You are. Again, YOU were the one that promised that we were going to have our troops come home. Are they home? No. Did they get the heroes welcome that they so rightly and honorable deserve? No.

I am not against our military men and women who proudly serve our country. My heart and concerns went out to the families of Fort Hood when that incident happened. My cousin and her husband are currently stationed there. I just feel that after 8 years of war, we are ready for peace.

Mr. President, last time I checked, NONE of the 9/11 hijackers came from Afghanistan. They came from Saudi Arabia. But yet, we still have an involvement in Afghanistan. Why?

Mr. President, we are disappointed. I think you can tell that in my tone of this message. You let your base down.

Sadly, and I think this with truth and with humility, I think President Bush and Cheney are laughing in their secret bunker right now. They may not be in the Oval Office anymore, but the strings are certainly still being pulled.

Cowboys/Packers wrap-up

With one of my best friends away on his Honeymoon, I highly doubt that he will post his Cowboys game wrap-up, so I will do this for him.

After last week's decisive and redeeming win against the Philadelphia Eagles, we were almost meant to come apart. Unfortunately that is what happened, in Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI.

This was not our greatest game. We perhaps have lost Marc Colombo for the remainder of the season due to a broken left fibula.

The game was scoreless up unto just about halftime, when Green Bay made a field goal. The game was sloppy on both sides. The game was going to be a shut-out for the Cowboys, a first since the Pats game in 2003. But there was a last minute TD by our Cowboys, and we lost 17-7.

But, let's put things in perspective people. All is not lost. With the Eagles getting a grim loss in San Diego today, 31-23, we are still in 1st place in the NFC East. The Giants had a bye week, and now the Eagles are tied with the NY Giants for 2nd place. Next week, the Eagles play Chicago, in Chicago. With how the Bears have collapsed as of late, I think the Eagles might squeeze out this win.

Cowboys fans, let's not panic. Realize that Tony Romo was just not really into this game. With Tony as our QB, we will have to face this risk. Next week, we play our division rival Washington Redskins. And today, after weeks of collapsing, the Washington Redskins, suddenly came alive, winning against the Denver Broncos. I really don't want to say this, but if we were to lose a game, this was the one. Now that this has happened, let's shake it off, and get our head into the game. If we do that, we will prevail over the Skins. And we will retain first place next week.

In closing, I wished we would have won. It just wasn't our week. I think I speak for all my Cowboys fans in that I think we all hoped that Miles Austin would have took the Lambeau Leap. But, no ... that tool Aaron Rodgers did it. Ugh. Anyway, let's get in gear, and we should be alright for next week.

Fort Hood Rampage

Looks like a horrific shooting rampage occurred at Fort Hood, Texas, which is near Waco. As of now, 12 people are killed and over 30 injured.

There were 3 shooters, and one of them was a Major. He was a mental health specialist. I cannot wrap my head around as to why stuff like these happens in America.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has ordered state flags to be at half mass effective now, until Sunday. President Obama has ordered the same, nationwide.

Keep the citizens of Texas in your thoughts.

Tony Romo, I'm Sorry ...

Looks like Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo listened to my blog entry.

Glad he did.

Surely, as each week passes, my beloved Dallas Cowboys are becoming the team that they are supposed to be. We are back to winning. And I am glad to see that.

Now, our biggest test yet comes this coming Sunday night.

The battle for NFC East 1st place is on the line with the NFL team I hate and despise the most, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The last game we had with this 'team' if you even call them that, ended in embarrassment for us. That was then, this is now.

Eagles, we know you number. We know the games you play. We know the tricks you play and the moves you think you can execute on us. We know that Andy Reid had to 'advise' with his sons, in prison, on weather or not to bring Michael Vick on board. Andy Reid is the most despicable NFL coach, period.

Everything about the Philadelphia Eagles is vile and disgusting. This Sunday night, at the Linc, Eagles fans, you will get what is coming for you. The Dallas Cowboys are far more equipped and experienced in the number 1 spot in the NFC East, than any other team.

By the time we are done with you, you will just sit down, shut up and you can go on losing games, again. First, by us, then by other teams.

This can happen ... If Tony Romo is focused. Tony, continue what you are doing. Keep your head in the game. This is the BIGGEST game we will have so far this year. We cannot accept, nor will we accept anything but total success.

We have been using this 'one game at a time' mentality for a while this season, and it's working. Philadelphia Eagles are nothing. Most in Philly don't realize this, but after Sunday night, they will, they will. And my Cowboys will be number 1 in the NFC East. Bring It!

What to do with Tony Romo??

As a devoted Cowboys fan for most of my 29 year life, I care deeply for my NFL team. However, my level of frustration with my NFL team is reaching a fever pitch.

Call me naive, or what you will, I have thought since the beginning of post-season last year that this was gonna be my team's year. We have the best and most awe inspiring beautiful stadium, anywhere in the world, for any sport. What would be a better way to cap off the season, with our first Super Bowl win since the mid 90s?

Every time Tony Romo is in the pocket, I get nervous now. Time seems to stand still. What takes a QB so long to execute a play and make it happen? Yeah, I know the DNA of football and that the defense comes up on you and you have to manage that. But, it just seems like Tony just don't know what to do.

Yeah, Tony Romo has good days, and he has bad days. Every QB has them. But, remember what I said in beginning of this opinion piece, THIS IS OUR YEAR. Are we gonna let teams like the Giants, Eagles or any other team take it from us? I think not.

I feel that Jerry Jones finds himself in a unique position. What should he do? Yeah, there are arguments on both sides: Keep Romo, put him 2nd string, or just let him go. I offer a wild and unorthox solution to this, with a little help of our NFC East fans. Let's get to reality here, Tony Romo is gonna fail ... again. Once that happens, take Tony out of the game, IMMEDIATELY. But in Kitna, or any one of our back ups. This is called the Donavon McNabb effect. Tony will realize how good he has it, then after the bye week, he will be better than ever. Before, you laugh about it, think about it. This can work.

Also, Tony needs to be more of a motivator. At last minute crunches, they should lift their team up. Not just look dumb.

Tony, I want you to do good. But, now, you just suck. Prove me wrong.

A Lot to Think About ...

We live in weird and troubling times ...

Yes we do. I really can't explain it. But if you just see, you will now what I mean.

I'm not talking just about politics and Obama's European overnight trip. I'm just not talking about the village idiot, Glenn Beck. I am talking about the world in general.

Even though Chicago did not get the privilege to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, you must give Obama credit to try to pitch his HOMETOWN to get the games. Now Obama is getting flack from the right for going in the first place. Since when has the politically right think it's cool to be un-patriotic to support a Olympic city plan? What ever happened to COUNTRY FIRST?? Humm??

I do think just a tad that President Obama is taking a little much on his plate than he should. But, let's remember three very important points ... 1) The former President, G.W. Bush left this country in such a mess that Obama has to clean it up, immediately. 2) Historically, it takes about a good year to year and a half before the current Presidents ideals and plans come to play. So, that makes me think that all of this arguing that Obama is turning this country into a Socialist nation is just rubbish. The political right are acting like a bratty teenager and they just need to grow up. And 3) Let's remember that if the stimulus package DID NOT go through, that the job losses would have been over 2 times worse than what happened.

Now, as for Glenn Beck ... the village idiot. I am glad that the mainstream political pundits are starting to describe him as a crazy person. Because, in reality that is what Beck is. It really scares me to think that even though he lost over 50 advertisers, he still gets big ratings on FOX News. It boggles my mind. I have no idea what to think.

It also troubles me that Comcast is actively looking into buying NBC/Universal from GE. I have written on here before that I don't trust Comcast. I always believed that they were too big as a corporation and if they get control of NBC/Universal, my fears will become ever more true. How big is to big? When Comcast looks at that question, they don't think anything. It's scary.

Again, a lot troubles me. I hope you feel the same way.

Religion gone crazy ...

Kirk Cameron is back in the news again. Now, I know you are asking yourselves right now, "Who is he?" Let me briefly remind you. He was the ubercool Mike Seaver from Growing Pains. He really hasn't done anything since then, so in my eyes, he's probably the best candidate for washed-up B-list actor since Michael Vick came aboard on the Eagles.

Now, I don't have anything against Kirk Cameron if you see him as a father and husband. He adopted 6 children and has been married to his wife for a long while. It takes a man to be a father, but it takes a special type of man to raise adopted children. Kudos to him on that.

Where I have a beef against Kirk is that ever since going into obscurity after Growing Pains, it seems like he has been brainwashed to be a ultra-right wing fundamentalist Christian, who is now a street preacher. Him and a other gentleman have a Trinity Broadcasting Network show (TBN) called "Way of the Master". If you haven't seen this peace of artwork, make sure you watch a segment here.

I don't have anything against religion and you can do what you want, but street preaching and getting into someone's face to make you accept YOUR god, or something like that is just unacceptable.

Reason for this blog post is twofold. 1) Looks like Kirk Cameron and his buddies are back in the news yet again. Kirk Cameron thinks that 18-35 year olds are becoming atheists and agnostics (like me) and he needs to save us. They wrote a short book about Creationism and is handing it out to colleges across America. Kirk, leave us alone. No one knows who you are anymore and you are certainly not the Mike Seaver you once were. Yeah, I know he was an actor and that Mike wasn't a real person. But you get my point. Mike was cool. Kirk is not.

Also, another reason for this rant post is that looks like Westboro Baptist Church from Kansas won their court case throwing out a $5 million ruling a year or two ago against a man who sued them because they picked his deceased son's funeral. The court said that Westboro Baptist Church is protected by the 1st Amendment. Are you kidding me? You can hold out signs at funerals and that's ok? What is wrong with this picture???

What ever happened to us respecting each other? Why are so many people afraid of things they don't understand, or refuse to understand? My soon to be six month old nephew, I really feel for him. Ever since he was born, I love him so much. But yet, I worry about him on how this world will treat him. What will it be like when he starts school, high school, college, and beyond? I hope his generation is more tolerant than the one I experience today. If you don't want to be preached to, you don't have to be. Yeah, you could say, "leave me alone," and just walk away. But with the likes of Cameron and his flock, and Westboro too, that is just not that simple. We those who are independent in our religion and those who don't believe in a higher power need to say that enough is enough and stand up. If we don't it will just get worse and worse. It's happening right before our very eyes.

I cannot stand people who don't think before they act. I was reading an AOL News article the other day that was telling about Kirk Cameron. I will end this post with a comment one person wrote ... Perhaps the best 11 words ever wrote: "Science flew us to the moon. Religion flies us into buildings."

Thursday Reading: 9/10/2009

Good morning all. The week is almost over and Thursday is here. Hope this dispatch finds you well.

1) President Obama made an passionate and excellent speech last night, in a joint session of Congress last night, as he made one final hail mary pass for Health Care Reform. CNN reports this morning that over 70 percent of those polled found the speech was good and that most are confident that health care reform will happen. However, there was dissent and it happened at the most wrong time. A congressman from the state of South Carolina shouted DURING the President's speech, "YOU LIE!", then the President talked about health care coverage for undocumented people in the US. Sen. John McCain asked for this guy's immediate apology.

2) The NFL season FINALLY gets started tonight, as the Pittsburgh Steelers will play against the Tennessee Titans. I hope the Titans win this game. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of hearing about the Steelers.

3) I was very happy to hear that Ellen DeGeneres will be the permanent 4th judge on AMERICAN IDOL. Yeah, she may not have a record, she may not be an artist, HOWEVER, she will give the average view of the average person. And those who know me, know that I love Ellen so much. So, this is good news all-around. Go girl. Congrats.

Special Review & Comment: American Idols Live

American Idol is one of the best shows in America. And of course, with me as a BIG fan, I had to go Reading's Soverign Center last night to see the concert. Reading Eagle, the daily newspaper for Reading had a fair and accurate review of the concert. I'm just going to echo some of the thoughts there and offer some thoughts of mine.

I thought most of the singers last night sounded great. They really improved their voice, their stage presence and in Danny Gokey's case, dancing skills from when they were on TV. The only ones that in my opinion that really didn't improve their voice sadly was Megan (who only impressed me with her hip-shaking skills) and 'Lil Rounds.

Most of the songs the singers sang were good for them. Kris Allen did a great version of Matchbox 20's 'Bright Lights'. Adam Lambert (who got the most applause whenever his image was on the video walls, or on stage) did a good dancey/disco version of David Bowie's 'Let's Dance'. Matt Giraurd did a flawless, breathtaking version of Ray Charles 'Georgia on my Mind'.

Perhaps the most surprising part of the concert was the length. I was convinced before the concert that it was gonna be over between 90 minutes and 2 hours. But, the concert lasted nearly 3 hours long. As the article mentioned, over 40 songs. You were not given a short dish of music.

However, leaving the concert was another thing. Even though Reading is a nice city and the Pagoda that can be seen from the concert venue is very nice, as it was lit up in red color,, but leaving the city of Reading and finding the way out from business route US 422 is a pain the neck. I swear, I was driving around in a 2009 Chevy Impala at 11:30PM in the ghetto. I hope there is a better way to get out of there next time. Better yet, I next year, think they need to come back to Hershey's Giant Center.

Tuesday Reading: 9/8/09

Good morning everyone.

1) I want to alert you to a story one of my friends told me about last night. As you know, we are all on the Swine Flu watch this fall and next winter. If things get as bad as the CDC says it will be, we could be in for 50% of the population getting this bug. Well, just like the flu shot, there is the swine flu vaccine. Well, the Daily Mail newspaper from England says that the US Government and the British government are covering up possible downsides to the vaccine. In the article, you will find that people who get the vaccine are 8 times more acceptable in getting Guillian-Barre Syndrome. As a person who had GBS about 7 years ago, I can speak first hand of the horrors of this disorder. I know the chances are low of people getting GBS if they get the vaccine, but I highly suggest everyone NOT TO GET THE VACCINE. If we all follow common sense health care prevention and be pro-active in protection from germs, we will be fine. You do not want to get GBS. Take it from me.

2) I will be on the road later this afternoon as I head with a friend of mine to Reading for the American Idol Live concert. It should be fun. I will have a report on this Wednesday.

3) I was saddened to hear about the news about the San Diego Charger player being arrested for beating up and detaining reality star, Tila Tequila. Any man who beats up a woman in my book is a idiot and a fool. However, the players lawyer says that there is a completely different side of the story. He said that Tila wanted to drink and drive. Now, that is a serious accusation to say, but Tila said that she is allergic to alcohol. Allergic? Child please. Have you ever heard of anyone being allergic to alcohol??? I haven't. I don't buy that. I'm sure that there is more to this story.

and finally ...

4) My car hunt is going well and I should have more details for you later this week. Let's just say what I found is a sweet ride.

Good Friday morning everyone ...

Just have a few points I want to make for this morning, then you will be on your way and your day.

1) An update on the President Obama speech for school-children slated for Wednesday. I know yesterday I posted a WASHINGTON TIMES link that said the speech was not going on. However, to my approval, it seems as if the speech WILL go on. But, parents are asking schools not to air the speech. They want 'alternative' activities planned. I hope the parents realize that this is for a good cause and not to brainwash their children. Having fear inside of you does NOTHING. It is almost ironic/funny that the fantical/religious right is asking for 'alternative activities', yet they have a hard time accepting people with alternative lifestyles and/or anything that is different than their narrow viewpoint of the world as they see it. Ironic, isn't??

2) I tried out the new JIGSY'S OLD FORGE PIZZA last night along Route 39, Linglestown Road. It is inside the Sports City complex. I really liked their pizza, but the cheese could have been a little better. The pizza itself is unique. Lighter than a scician slice, but more like a french bread pizza type. And it's toasted. If you want something different than every other pizza shop, I suggest you check it out. Also, keep in mind, that when you order, there are onions in the sauce. You can order without, if that is your wish (like me). Also, it's not in slices, but pieces. And the pieces are not small. Definately check it out. Nice place.

3) LABOR DAY WEEKEND is apon us and I hope that you have a great weekend. Nice weather should be with us the entire weekend. Check out Kipona in downtown Harrisburg. Also, HERSHEYPARK will be open this weekend. I might head there on Sunday.

The radical right is at it again my friends ... and now they won ...

Our President wanted to speak to ALL public school children about the importance of education and about doing well in school. Well, anti-Obama people around America spoke up. They said that it was almost socialistic that something like this would happen. Glenn Beck suggested that parents keep their kids home from school. People in Texas spoke up, saying that they don't want kids seeing this.

Newsflash ... Reagan spoke to school children after the Space Shuttle Columbus disaster. He also spoke to school students about the dangers of drugs ...

So, with that said, what is so wrong with our President wanting to give more or less a pep-talk to our youth?

Well, news broke late this morning from the Washington Times that the Education Department has backed off from this nationwide speech, set for this coming Tuesday.

Another newsflash to those people who are scared that this nation is supposedly going to socialism ... this country is in need of change. That is why we elected Obama. It takes time for change to occur. It does not happen overnight. The fear that people are trying to put on us (death panels, czar's acting beyond their means, etc) has to stop. As I mentioned before, and I will repeat until it sticks ... If you don't have anything nice to say, then be quiet. You had your time for power, it's time for us to fix it.

Trying to motivate students to do better is a right of not only teachers, parents and family members, but everyone. Again, I repeat ... what was so wrong with this idea?

We are moving forward in America ... not backwards. Just like the school bus, it's time to either get on, or get off. No stopping progress now.

Saying Goodbye ...

... to a great blog.

Happy September all. We made it through the long August month and September has finally arrived. For us football fans (like me), this month could not come soon enough. PSU football starts Saturday and it will be good to see some sports.

Now, don't worry. This blog is not ending, even though I should be updating a lot more than I am. I am trying to write now at least 1 post a week. And the majority of the posts will be opinion pieces. Not just other things I have had here before.

What we are saying goodbye to is one of the best regional blogs that I follow, Philly Skyline, B. Love, the writer of the blog has been on a summer-long hitas. He said that we will have a new look to the blog come Sept. 1st. As I and many others were anxiously awaiting this, he came out with a heart-felt piece of how things changed in his life.

The great American west and travels out there captured his heart and soul. While I do admire him (for exploring America the way it is) and wish him all the best, I'm sure that I am not the only one saddened to hear this. If you never seen his blog, I strongly encourage you to check it out. Even though there will be a few more posts, the whole website will stay and all postings will be archived, including all his amazing photos and skyline pics of Philly.

Even though there are many faults with Philadelphia (mainly #1, the Eagles), this website is one of the best websites on the web, and you will be remorsed not to take a few minutes to check it out.

Finally, as selfish as it is for me to say this, I hope B. Love will reconsider. I wrote to him earlier today via his website, expressing my sadness of his news. I really do hope he that even if he leaves, he finds someone to carry this on. Philly has it's many faults, most it can't help. Hell, they just asked to borrow close to $300 million to help it's budget. It can't afford to lose such a great website.

Michael Vick: There Goes the Fans ...

The most shocking announcement of the NFL Post/Pre season came out this past Thursday evening. First came the Twitter rumors that Michael Vick was signing with the Buffalo Bills. Vick and T.O. on the same team ... now that's gangsta.

Then as I was leaving the 'District 9' showing (great movie, btw) and rebooted my iPhone, the bombshell came out, Michael Vick, signs with the the Philadelphia Eagles ... The Eagles? WTF. Serious? This can't be right. That was my first reactions.

But with every shock, comes the anger. With every anger, comes the consequences. And that is happening right now with the Iggles' Nation. I seen on a recent poll that over 60 percent of people are upset at this. The Patriot-News sports fan line was nearly a full page today. Over 2/3rd's of the comments were anti-Vick. Now, the anger has made it's way to the Jersey Shore.

One of my closest friends, Ryan, is celebrating his birthday weekend at the shore and he told me that a banner plane has this message: "Shame on the Eagles, boycott the games".

Anger is a VERY powerful thing. And this can play well for the Dallas Cowboys hands, if it is done right. Can rabid Eagles fans be rehabilitated back into normal football fans, and can they become Cowboys fans? I think so.

Granted, am I worried at a so called 'Wildcat' Eagles offense? Maybe. But come on. This is Andy Reid. And now they have Michael Sick as backup QB. This is gonna blow up in their faces.

The season has yet to start, but now the drama has started. Let it be known. Michael Vick IS NOT healed. As the Philadelphia Daily News said on their front page yesterday, "HIDE YOUR DOGS". And as one of my friends told me, "I think they need to throw Milk Bones into the field when he comes out". Could not said it better myself.

The Madness of Untamed Free Speech ...

Something is happening in America. And it's not pretty.

For the past few weeks, our elected representatives and Senators have been berated and yelled at by citizens who do not think before they speak. And yesterday, it boiled over, right here in the midstate.

Sen. Arlen Specter was at a town-hall meeting at the HACC Lebanon Campus. Only 250 to 300 people were allowed to be inside the auditorium, and reports are that close to 3,000 people were outside the campus. Most were holding signs and yelling at each other.

As the meeting/town hall session started, someone (who I believe must have had bad Lebanon Bologna the night before) threatened our Senator. He said, "One day, God is going to stand before you and he is going to judge you and the rest of your damn cronies up on the Hill. And then you'll get your just dessert." Now, I don't know about you, but that sounds like a direct threat against our Senator.

Personally, I don't agree with Sen. Arlen Specter on everything. Even though his voting record don't show it, I don't think he should have changed parties. But he did. That was his decision. But for a far-from-average, upset citizen to say something like that on LIVE TV that was shown on CNN and his face posted on the NY TIMES front page this morning, he really must be ashamed of himself.

Another prime example of speaking before you think is the former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. She tried to scare people in thinking that older Americans will have to go in front of 'Obama's Death Council' in deciding whether you should live or not. Perhaps she should have thought of her words before saying it. St. Petersburg Times 'PolitiFact' did research on this and gave her a 'Pants on Fire' rating. Reports state that now she is asking people who disagree with Health Care Reform to calm down. Let's see if she takes her own advice.

As an American, I am entitled to free speech. That man from Lebanon is entitled to his, and Sarah Palin to her's. But let's be civil. I know health-care reform is a VERY touchy subject. The bill itself is over 1,000 pages and is very confusing to understand. But when it comes to speaking, and public speaking especially, it is vital to be nice, thoughtful, and respectful. It is time to do that. I am sick of people making idiots of themselves.

As your mother said, "if you don't have anything nice to say ... don't say anything at all."

Philadelphians and Sports: A Deadly & Dangerous Combo

I hate stupidity. Just as much as the other person. But two stories from Philadelphia, at the Sports Complex area has me dumbfounded. I kindly submit these two articles for your inspection:

1) Phillies Fan Uses Laser Pointer To Take On Pujols - Source, NBC10 Philly.

and

2) Man fatally assaulted outside Citizens Bank Park - Source, 6ABC.

Now, as a Dallas Cowboys fan, devoted to death, it should be no surprise that this will be a biased and slanted opinion. But I think the chain of events that happened yesterday does need to be addressed.

First of all, I would think that during this post 9/11 world, that a ballpark holding over 43,000 people, a laser pointer would be the last thing that you would have with you. Where was the security? Security did go to this idiot's section, but they could not find the laser pointer. They had to actually stop game play because of the idiot's actions. Now, I am not profiling or pointing out people, but it was probably a teenager, doing it on a bet from their peers. You know who you are, and I would hope that you turn yourself in.

Philadelphia fans (of all sports, but most particularly Eagles fans), will cheat and use anything to advance their team. That said, let this be a muted hope for the Eagles fans. If you think you will put a trick like this during the 2 Dallas loss you will encounter this season, you are wrong. We are onto your tricks and your ways.

Philadelphia fans booed Santa Claus once and threw snowballs at him. Who in their right mind would think of that?

Philadelphia fans not only stupid, but they are now going to an event can get you ... killed. As the second article points out, stupid fans who probably had too much to drink beat up on each other, but this time it proved fatal.

Now, I have been to the Sports Complex in Philly about 4 times. Two times for concerts, once for a Flyers game and once for my memorable American Idol auditions back in Season 7.

Something needs to be done, security wise, here to make sure this doesn't happen again. I have called Lincoln Financial Field in Philly numerous times, "the nest of darkness." Never, however did I think the complex that holds this place will become deadly. Now it has.

I will close with this thought ... What is worse ... Stupidity by laser pointer in a professional baseball game ... or getting killed? Damn

Remembering Michael Jackson

I am sure you are tired of hearing about the passing of Michael Jackson. I must admit that I am too, just a little.

But I would be neglect if I didn't take a blog post to reflect on his life and the impact he had in the world.

With me being born in 1980, much of my life I knew of MJ, but didn't appreciate him as much as I should have. But with all he did, it's hard not to notice what he has accomplished.

I found the memorial yesterday quite moving. Mariah Carey was just beautiful and her performance was grand. When MJ's daughter Paris spoke, I nearly broke down. I have to think however, do you think MJ wanted his children to speak at such an event? I think not. But this wasn't just any other memorial.

Neilsen says that over 30 million people seen the memorial yesterday. Over 10 broadcast networks covered the event. And around the world, perhaps up to 1 BILLION people saw it.

Did MJ have issues and troubles? Yes. Was it worthy and necessary for us to pause and reflect? Yes. To those people who want to diss MJ and the coverage, I say this: Everyone has issues and hardships. That's life. So, before you cast the first stone, think to yourself ... should I be dissing this person?

Michael, thank you for the music. We will remember you for the bright things you gave us. Has Diddy said, "Other people brought the music. Michael made the beat."

With that said, let's remember that. I know I will.

Well, I Hope They Enjoyed the View ...

Yesterday was quite a sports day at the PA State Capitol Complex. At the East Wing Rotunda, they had showcased the Stanley Cup, World Series and Lombardi trophy. A good turnout came to see such a rare sight. There was no previous record on if this ever happened before, where 3 major sports trophies were in the same location, at the same time.

I hope in particular that the fans of the Philadelphia Eagles and NFL Super Bowl Champions Pittsburgh Steelers' enjoyed the moment. Because once my Dallas Cowboys get the year through and win the super bowl next winter, the Lombardi trophy will have a new home, in Dallas.

Let's see how dem 'Iggles enjoy that then. Haha.

Happy Birthday America!

Well, today is the day we celebrate the birthday of the United States of America.

Back in 1776, we declared our independence from the country of Britain, in a gutsy move that has forever shaped this world.

To our military men and women serving stateside and abroad, thank you for your service to our great country. I know your service is hard and that it puts great strains on you and your families. But know that we do appreciate everything that you do and that we all want you back home, safe and sound, as soon as possible.

So, I went to a picnic today at my grandmothers. All my relatives were there. We had food (no hot dogs tho :(, what's up with that?) and great company. Then my aunt started the prayer. Now, you know me. I don't mind prayer. It is a great instrument that we all have to talk to God. Then my aunt said, "a country based on Christian principals, now and forever." This is where I take exception.

I'm not trying to be a party pooper, or a person that likes to poke or incite arguments, but let's be serious and real for a second. Is America the same it was in 1776 as it is today, faith wise? No. America is the best and most envious country to all people. People come here from all faiths, just not Christianity.

Now, I'm not knocking or mocking Christianity. Personally, I'm an agonistic. I believe in God, but have no formal religion that I turn to. Does that make me a bad person? No. All people who know me, can say that I may be a bit weird, but I am a great and funny person and loyal friend.

However, it really ruffles my feathers when the Christian right thinks that they are the kingpin religion and their way is the other way. It also ruffles my feathers that they think that Christianity is the sole religion that formed this fine nation. I'm sure when it was 1776, perhaps that was the view. Most people in the 1400's also thought the world was flat. Pioneers like Christopher Columbus however proved that wrong.

As technology advanced, we seen that this is a vast world and there has to be more than one master rule and more than one master religion. I think most people agree with me. And they should. So, has those fireworks go off tonight, embrace a diverse America. This is the America of 2009, not 1809.

Reflection: Fighters and Survivors

Hello everyone.

My apologies for not updating my blog as I should. I find myself twittering a lot over on my Twitter page. Feel free to look at it when you can. I hope that everyone is well.

I decided to write this post on a reflection on what my long beach weekend was.

This past weekend, I was invited by my mom and her close friends to attend the John Hopkins Medicine Cancer's Plunge for Patients. This event was held in Wildwood, NJ., which is near the southern most tip of the great state of New Jersey. Much of the weekend was rest and relaxation, and the Jersey Shore is known for that. What it is not most known for is the good volunteering can be for you.

Fighters and Survivors ... it is two of the most powerful words in the English language. The grand old USA was built on these words, as it is still here today. But for those who go through traumatic experiences in their lives (personal, medical, spiritual or otherwise), it is a completely different story.

This weekend was filled with these types of people. Cancer fighters and survivors who go through chemo and recovery each and every day.

The day was filled with a karaoke event (don't worry, I didn't sing) and swim and run events. Unfortunately, the sporting events were canceled later in the day due to heavy and rough surf, also heavy storms that have been around for much of the day. But as I volunteered, reading the stories/bios of these survivors brought me back.

What brought me back was one survivors story in general. His name is Brett and is 30 years old. At the age of 21, (the same age I got GBS), he had a rare form of cancer that struck him almost all at once. He had to be in a virvus proof bubble for the better part of a month or two. And he made it. Like me, Brett is a fighter. Brett knows (as with me) what it is like to have your world collaspe on you all at once and to have to fight with everything inside of you to get back where you were.

I spoke with Brett later on that evening and I told him that he is a fighter and that he should be proud of what he accomplished. And he is proud. He appreciated the talk I had with him. And I hope I can keep in contact with him.

Sometimes in life, all you need is to take a step back. You need to realize that there is someone in life who might be going through something like you, or perhaps much much worse. Sometimes it is rough, and most of the times it is.

Are you a fighter? Are you a survivor? If not, next year, go down to Wildwood for Plunge for Patients. Your viewpoints on who you are will change. They did for me, and it can for you too.

Shooting at DC Holocaust Museum

Well, hatred and intolerance came out again today in Washington, DC.

A 89 year old man, who has ties to a hate group, opened fire in the lobby of the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. One guard is dead, the suspect is in critical condition at a DC hospital.

What in the world is going on in this world? This is why gun control needs to happen in the US. NOW. 2nd of all, the guy is 89 years old. One would think that a person this old can't do something like this. But, this obviously proves other wise. If you have hate in your heart, it don't matter what age you are.

My tolerance for people who can't embrace other people who are different than what you are is really starting to irk me. Whatever happened to 'love thy neighbor'? Why does hate survive and flourish? I guess this is something we won't fully know.

Grow up people.

Stormy .... Again

Well, looks like we are in a stormy pattern still here.

Another rare overnight thunderstorm hit this morning ... Yeah, 5AM don't count as overnight to much, but as for me, it is.

Then TORNADO warnings hit for Lancaster and Chester counties. The storms are still moving and developing. We are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8PM, and I don't think that will be canceled early.

Stay alert, stay informed, and stay safe.

Weather Check: 6/3/09

As you were sleeping last night, you were probably awaken (as I was) with a rare SusquValley overnight thunderstorm. So far, June is turning into quite an active and stormy month around here.

And for today, the chance for more storms will be in the cards. If you get caught in one of these bad storms, try to get into shelter, as soon as you can. Chance of showers and storms tonight stand at 70 percent.

Finally, looks like we are going to be in this pattern for quite a while. I know, I don't like it as much as you do.

Movie Review: Drag Me to Hell

I went last night to the Great Escape 14 theaters in Harrisburg with a good buddy of mine to see, "Drag Me to Hell".

If you have an opportunity to see this movie, SEE IT. It was filled with dark humor throughout and it was very scary as well. And it has a left-wing type ending you will not see a mile away.

I was completely blown away by the ending. Much much better than 'Night @ The Museum 2".

American Idol: Down to 2

Well, how would have thought it was going to go down like this?

The final two for this seasons' American Idol Finale will be Adam Lambert of San Diego, CA and Kris Allen of Conway, AR.

Danny Gokey got robbed last night of the final 2 position and was denyed that opportunity. But he will definately have a career in music.

Could you (or anyone for that matter) have concieved that this was the way it was going to happen? Sure, Adam was a sure shot for a long time. But Kris?? Not saying that Kris hasn't played the game well. He has. He was under the radar the entire time. His hometown visit was surreal and amazing at the same time. But with all that said, was it worthy of final 2? No. Was it fair to Danny to have this happen to him? No. Is Danny a better singer than Kris and Adam put to together? You better believe it.

So, who will I root now for in this competition as we go for the big finale next week? To be honest, I really don't know. Part of me just want to watch and not vote at all. Keep this in mind however: If the stats from last nights voting is correct, and only 1 million votes seperated Kris and Adam, and if it is also correct that Kris got the most votes, than the finale should be a good event. Kris picked up his act at the exact right moment. He is riding a wave that he started. Could this tsumami take out Adam, the Goliath? We will know next Wednesday night.

One other point I want to make for this finale next week. Can Adam become sincere? I really don't think he has shown that side of him yet. Adam knows he is a good singer. He's cocky about it. One look at the smile and the way he conducts himself and you know he knows. But, he needs to shed all that next week, if he wants the best shot in winning it.

Danny Gokey fans, don't fret tho. I'm just disappointed at the Jonas Brothers fan base who put Kris in it. Think about it. 6-14 year olds are possibly going to crown the next American Idol. Ironically, they can't vote in a Presidential or any election in this fine nation. This clearly defines the power of the 'youth vote'. President Obama eat your heart out. LOL.

Anyway, I originally picked Danny from the beginning. And now I made it to the top 3, yet again. Maybe next year I can do better. However, a part of me wishes I can try out for Idol again. Maybe then, America can get it right.

1) How about American Idol? I must be honest and say that I didn't expect Kris to be in the final 3, but good for him. Time for some hyper-local coverage from the newspapers of the contestants left on Idol:

Next week, they go back to the hometowns of the final 3. Then Tuesday, each will sing 2 songs. One of them a judges choice and the other a personal favorite. Best of luck.

2) Manny Ramirez, of the Dodgers has been suspended for 50 games for using a banned substance. Details from the LA Times. How stupid can someone be to use crap like this. And supposedly, one person said that he was using a woman's fertility drug. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

American Idol Preview for 5/5/09

Well, I have been lapsing on the American Idol posts, so thought I would shoot one out there.

I have good news and bad news on my prediction this year. First the bad news. My personal favorite, Matt Girard, is out. Even though it was his week last week, songs from the Rat Pack, his song choice was just weak. But Matt will have a future in music, believe me. Now, the good news. If you have followed my blog for sometime, I have originally predicted that Danny Gokey will win American Idol. Guess what? He's still in it.

As much as I think Danny has it to win it, all bets however go to Adam Lambert. His voice, his style is just amazing. Last week, he sung 'Feeling Good' from Muse. Through Idol spoiling, I found out that he chose this song. Now, before that night, I never knew Muse did Feeling Good. Michael Buble was the one that made it famous again some years ago. However, if you take a moment and view this YouTube video of the Muse version, it just gives you shivers. Literally. Seriously. Adam did the song good, especially at the last note, but the Muse version was just better. And for a shocker, he was in the bottom 2! I think this served purpose to a couple of things. 1) It shows that Adam is vulernable. 2) Any song from Buble that was perfomered on Idol meant the kiss of death. Don't worry Danny friends, Adam is gone within 2 weeks. Believe me.

Now, let's set the stage for this week ... Rock & Roll Week. Slash from Guns N' Roses will be the mentor. Daughtry will perform Wednesday night. Here is what I think the remaining 4 should sing:

Danny: I would like him to sing Live's 'Lightning Crashes'. This is a great rock song and I think he would excel with it. Or perhaps just maybe Creed's 'With Arms Wide Open'.

Alison: Who would've knew that this 17 year old would still be in the game. Personally I think she is the one leaving this week. But, I choose Joan Jett's 'I Love Rock & Roll'. When I went to the AI auditions season 7 in Philly, this was the crowd song. And a decent song choice for her.

Kris: This guy knows how to do songs right. This week, I choose either Eagles 'Hotel California' or 311's 'Amber'. Both songs can be done in the acoustic way that Kris has been able to bring each and every week.

and finally ...

Adam: If last week was Matt's ideal week, this is Adam's. Adam is rock and roll. With that said, I choose The Darkness' 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love'. This would be an awesome pick for him. His voice. His poise. He could kick this out of the park. Or maybe as an alternate, perhaps Beck's 'The New Pollution'. Oh yeah.

So that is my picks. Hope I'm right.

Saddness in Dallas

Nature broke loose yesterday in Irving, Texas. And it wasn't pretty.

The Dallas Cowboys were in their practice facility, which is enclosed by a bubble when a microburst took apart the bubble and collapsed the ceiling of the facility. A microburst is also known as straight line winds. Most of this damage is confused with a tornado, but thankfully it wasn't.

Now, comes the sad news. The newspaper 'Fort Worth Star-Telegram' in Fort Worth reports this Sunday night that the Cowboys assistant scout is now PERMANENTLY paralyzed because of the injuries and chaos that happened yesterday. The scout, who is named Rich Behm is only 33 years old and is now paralyzed from the waist down.

I will not sugar coat this sad story, but let me be straight and blunt here. This is a sad story. It's almost shocking that this could happen to a team like this. Yes, I would say the same thing if it was any other team, even the Eagles. Today, I proudly wore my Cowboys cap and old school shirt. They are in my thoughts. And I suggest you do the same.

Update on 'Refrigerator' Perry

CBS2 Chicago/AP reports that the former Chicago Bears/Philadelphia Eagles player William 'Refrigerator' Perry is upgraded to Fair condition.

This is good news. I am really pulling for a good and complete recovery.

It will be a rough and tough road for him, as I have earlier wrote about. But now it's all uphill. Once he gets over the hill, it just gets better.

What Were They Thinking??

This story from the AP has really struck a cord within me.

Basically, over the skies of Lower Manhattan NYC earlier this morning. Police and authorities said this was a 'staged photo op' with a decoy Air Force One plane and fighter planes behind that.

Why? Why would anyone approve of this? Is there any logic going on with this person? So, the person apologized. Fine. Now resign.

In this day in age of the world, the people of NYC are always going to be on alert. They are always going to worry. And no doubt that they would. People of NYC are tough people. But a event like this are just stupid.

Be Smart and Don't Panic

This blog post is not a normal posting here, so just bear with me ...

That is the words of advice you hear on the news now. Every channel. Every network. All because of this 'swine flu' bug that is going around.

And I want to express that point, yet bring up some topics that may not have been brought up yet.

First of all, don't panic. This is not Steven King's 'The Stand' virus. America and the world will be here tomorrow.

Second, use common sense. If you are sick, stay home. If you know someone who is sick, keep your distance. Not saying this to be rude or anything, but you don't want to get sick at all, now do you?

Third, and this point has not been brought up yet ... HOW did this happen? What was the reason? This is not food poisoning, and this wasn't done by unprocessed food or bad conditions to raise that. So, how is this happening, and why. That is an answer we need now. Not later.

I think President Obama and his team are handling this crisis well. And we need to do so as well.

Former Chicago Bears' Player in Hospital

You see this headline, and it just might be another story to you. And to most people, it would. But if you read the article from ESPN.com, you will see that it hits close to home for me personally ...

William 'The Refrigerator' Perry is in a South Carolina hospital in serious condition after he had a relapse due to the after effects of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. He was diagnosed with GBS back in June of 2008, and he is back in the hospital again. He is listed in serious condition, but is expected to fully recover.

About 6 years ago, I was diagnosed with GBS at the age of 22. It was the scariest time of my life. But, the recovery that I made helped me realize who I was and what I can accomplish was a person. I made almost a full recovery, although I really can't run. I also have nerve pain in my feet and ankles from time to time. And that is expected to stay with me for the rest of my life.

Myself aside though, I really do feel for Mr. Perry. What he must be going through is very scary and the thought that I know what he feels is quite surreal.

My heart and thoughts go out to him and his family. My advice: Keep your head up, believe in your faith, make a goal to get back where you were before this all happened, and don't let nothing stop you. This could be the most rewarding time of your life, and your sense of yourself that you develop after this is something you will keep forever.

I will make it a point to keep up to date very closely to this story. Let's all say a prayer/thought for him.

Classy Pizza Place

While I was in Connecticut this weekend with friends of mine, we ate at this pizza place, Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana in New Haven, CT.

This place has been featured in national travel shows on Food Network and I also think the Travel Channel.

New Haven was a very neat town that also has Yale in it. The people in the town were very nice and this pizza joint was on spot.

They make the pizza's in a coal oven that reaches temps of over 2000 degrees. The pizza was excellent, with a bit of a smokey taste. But with the unique shape of the pizza (an oval meets a square), it seperates it from the rest.

If you ever get to that city, make sure you check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Why Tea Parties Failed

Well, yesterday was the day that we all bit the checkbook, in a sense. April 15th, Tax Day. I had my taxes done like 2 weeks ago, so I wasn't one of those last minute people, but yesterday the collective responsibilty of Americans were completed.

However, instead of just doing that job and moving on, some bitter people from the loser side of the election of 2008 showed up, in numerous 'Tea Parties' across America.

Why?

They say that America and the government is wasting money that we don't have. They say that we have been taxed enough and that the role of government is expanding and becoming ever more there.

What they failed to mention is that all of them paid their taxes. What they did was just futile, and served no purpose. We live in a different day and era then we did only just 1 year ago. The failed (none) economic policies of the president before Obama created this mess we are in. All Obama is doing is just trying to fix the mess.

But, these people don't believe it. Headed by right-wing ego high talk show hosts like, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly they made people believe that America is not the country it was. We are turning socalist. This is nothing but pure rubbish.

Keep in mind that Glenn Beck, before 9/11/2001 was nothing. He was a no-name radio host who was in small markets. After that fateful day in American history, he was hoisted into radio and now television via FauxNews. He even came up with this '9/12 Project' where he asks Americans to bring back the mentality and direction of that day.

This country is coming back from depression and recession. If spending money (that we contribute through taxes) will help bring us back, I am all for it. We need a mindset that we will survive this, and we are. So, instead of arguing, just enjoy the fact that you still live in the greatest country on this planet.

Lastly, the comments of Texas Governor Rick Perry is just disgusting. He said that if the US government continues to meddle in the business of Texans, that we just might, just might, have to leave the union of the USA. Sir, with all due respect, that is impeachable comments. I hope citizens of the great state of Texas (which once was a country itself) wake up and see that these comments have no place in today's day and age.

No recession is like any other. So with this one. Sometimes, what we must do is swallow our pride, shut up, and let things work out. President Obama and members of Congress started to roll this ball. The ball is rolling. Let it continue to roll. If you don't like it, sorry. Republcians, you had your time. We had to put up with 8 years of Bush and company. Now, it's President Obama and his administration to shape and form this world.

So please, kindy ... Shut up and sit down.

Looks like five college freshmen from Villanova University broke into Lincoln Financial Field overnight last night in Philly ...

What were they looking for? Perhaps the invisible super bowl trophey? No. Were they looking for the coach, Andy Reid, to see if he was like 'working'? No.

They were trying to steal a seat. Seriously.

Now, of course they will be charged with crimes, and they should. But let's step a step back and logically think about this, Phily ...

In reality, the five freshmen from 'Nova did you guys a great service. There is one less seat to watch a crappy team play. Believe you me, it benefits all.

Update on what's going on

Sorry I haven't updated much lately.

Just been busy with work and life. It has been fun and going well. Also producing/generating my Class of 2009 Legacy Songs list from my iPod. That hopefully should be done tonight.

Also, seems like I have been using Twitter much more than blogging. I however, need to find a balance betweeen the two.

Finally, the NFL schedule for 2009 is released this evening at 7PM. Once I get the Cowboys schedule, I will post it on here. I am hoping that my one friend will have special commentary on the schedule. Maybe I should pest him and find out, or encourage him to do that.

American Idol in Review: 4/7/2009

This week's theme on Idol was songs from the year the contestants were born. And this week, finally, did not disappoint.

Most singers chose songs that complemented them, but some did not. Adam Lambert once again kept everyone awed by Gary Jules 'Mad World'. Matt Giaurd wowed everyone by Stevie Wonder's 'Part Time Lover'. Danny did 'Stand By Me'. Kris did a crowd-pleasing version of the Don Henley classic 'All She Wants to Do is Dance'. Allison had the only 90s song of the night, and she did not disappoint with a Bonnie Raitt ballad, 'I Can't Make You Love Me'.

The following will be in the bottom 3:

Lil Rounds, with a disappointing version of the Tina Turner classic, "What's Love Got to Do With It". Yeah, on my twitter I said I liked it, but overall, it just did not do what it needed to do in the long run.

Anoop will be in the bottom 3 with his bad performance of the Phil Collins classic, 'True Colors'. Some may like it, but eh, it just did not do it.

But the last person in the bottom 3 and my prediction for going home this week will be Scott. He did some 80s' power ballad that 1) I did not even know and 2) was bad, very bad. To his credit, he did lose the piano and he used a guitar. That is when it went bad ... I feel that he put himself going home because of poor execution and that bad high note he screamed.

Update to Pittsburgh Shooting Story

UPDATE: 3:39PM ...

A press conference has just been completed about 10 minutes ago and some information needs to be clarified:

Looks like the man who did the shooting was at the house all along. Police responded to the house from a 911 call, saying that there was a domestic disturbance.

The suspect had a bullet-proof vest on during the crime. After the 3 officers were killed and 2 injured, he gave up. FOX News Channel and WTAE-TV both report that the suspect was afraid that President Obama was going to take his guns away, and that he was not going to let this happen.

As of now, looks like the suspect is in the hospital, and is charged with 3 counts of murder. And it is quite possible that they will go for the death penalty in this case.

More updates later as they warrant.

First we had the tragedy in Binghamton, NY, now this. And from how the story told, this guy wasn't involved AT ALL. He just flipped.

This is why we need mandatory gun control in the United States. Unless if you are a cop, there is really no reason to have guns. Why can't people talk out their issues like normal people? Why does guns and violence have to seep through all aspects of life? I just don't get it.

Earlier in life, I lost my best friends because he chose to be juvenile with guns. I know how this complex works. Been there, done that.

Something about this needs to be done. When will Obama address urban violence and gun control???

Also, got word from one of my friends in Northeast PA, that WYOU-TV the CBS station from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre TV market has decided to dump news all together. Even though they suffered poor ratings for years, it is no excuse to dump news. Broadcasting & Cable says that WYOU figures they will save close to $1 million a year by doing this. Also they, say that viewers, 'don't care about news'. Really? You must be kidding me.

1:) Well, it is back to the drawling board for Michael Vick. A bankruptcy judge rejected his plan to come out of financial turmoil. Story from WSB-TV - Atlanta, GA.

2:) The New York Yankees are about to play their first season game in their new stadium, and the reviews are already rave. Details from The San Diego Union Tribune - San Diego, CA.

3:) A wake is a terrible time to have a fight. BUT, what if that fight was over beer? Only in Arkansas. Story from WPTY/WLMT - Memphis, TN.

3) As you may know, Villanova, a college in suburban Philly, is going to the Final Four. Well, WCAU-TV in Philadelphia reports that everyone is buying ANYTHING with the Nova symbol on it. Go Nova!

5) Now an interesting story from WKBN-TV in Youngstown, OH. More and more businesses (mainly restaurants) are starting a "Pay What You Think It's Worth" type mentality to running their eateries. It caught on in Europe, and now here in the USA.

Well, good morning.

We had wicked storms move through York and Lanacaster Counties yesterday. And NWS will be out in various locations looking at damage and determining wether or not a tornado hit. The most impressive damage was in Ephrata, Lancaster County, where 6 mobile homes in a trailer park were turn on it's side. Residents there said they saw 'swirling winds'. 6ABC even made it from Philly to coverage the damage. Kudos for them coming out.

And I hope you got to see the first picture of my nephew, Simon last night. Just spoke to his dad over the phone just a few minutes ago, and he slept through the night well.

Now, time for today's 10:

1) There is a saying that 'everything comes up roses', but how about your water source. That happened over the weekend in Ohio. Details from WBTV-TV Charlotte, NC.

2) KYW-TV in Philadelphia reports on a unique Spring Break destination. It's not Florida, nor is it Texas or the Bahamas. It's Camden, NJ.

I would like to properly introduce the newest member to my family:

Simon Carl Koons

Simon was born Sunday morning, March 29th, 2009 at 9:58AM. He was born in York, PA. He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces. And was 21 inches long.

Baby, mom and father are doing great.

It is such a feeling to be the uncle to this baby boy. The smile is still on my face this evening. And probably will be for a long while.

Finally, may I say that I looked up the word uncle. In Latin it means, "Little Grandfather". There you go.

Random Thoughts: 3/28/2009

Good Saturday evening.

I have been out of the computer for most of the day, so I think that I will have a fresh 10 stories for you on Sunday.

Just a few thoughts:

1 - Unless it changes, or my information is not correct, I think I know the American Idol theme for next week. It is 'iTunes Top 100 Songs' week. Should be a very good week, with mostly fresh and youthful songs. This week everyone should excel and it should be 2 great hours of TV. Also, it is back to normal Tuesday and Wednesday schedule.

2 - Today marks the 30th Anniversary of TMI. That was the date of the worst nuclear accident in American history, and it happened right here in the Susquehanna Valley.

and finally ...

3 - I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my first nephew. My brother Mike and his wife are expecting their first son any day now. I am so excited for both of them and my entire family. I can't wait until the baby arrives. Most of our family thinks Simon will arrive this weekend. The date the doctors gave was the 31st of March. Once Simon arrives, I will post the first pictures right here on this blog. :)

Now that we got American Idol out of the way, time for some stories and good reading material.

But before we do that, looks like we got some rain today. Didn't hear how much rain, but I think we needed a bit more rain for it to make a difference. We are already over 5 inches in the hole for the year. And it's only late March. Not good. Now, time for tonight's 10:

1): CBS21 WHP did a story earlier this week on 'Sexting' in where teenagers are sending illicit picture texts (MMS) to each other. However, there is a professor at a Texas university who says, unbelievably, that this is normal. Details on this story from the York Daily Record - York, PA.

2): 28 people are dead in Mississippi after a tornado tears up a town. Story from The Washington Times - Washington, DC.

3): Time now to look at the cost of freedom. 4,262. That is the number of brave men and women who have passed away serving our country in Iraq since the occupation began, 6 years ago. Details from Yahoo! News.

4): For iPhone users like me, this is going to be great news. Oprah Winfrey made it famous and now it was confirmed the SKYPE is coming to the iPhone. More details next week, at a wireless trade show. But for now, here is some details from CNET.com.

7): Now, we all know the hoopla and extension the federal government gave TV stations for the DTV switch. Well, the coupon fund is flowing again, and you have until June 12th to get converted. Mark my words, stupidity might be awarded again come May, if they delay it ... again. i hope not.

10): The building that is being built in NYC, the Freedom Tower, has a new name. It will now be referred to as The One World Trade Center. Details from WRIC-TV - Petersburg, VA. Two reactions to this story ... First, why not do this from the very beginning. And second, someone George W. Bush and former NYC mayor who repeats 9/11 every other word is crying, because him and his freedom fighters were hoping for that original name.

An Odd Resuts Show ...

About to prepare tonight's 10 stories, but let's just get to a quick re-cap on what transpired tonight ...

I didn't get home in time to see AI Season 2 champ Rueben perform, but I heard it was good. Then my girl Joss Stone performed with Smokie Robinson. Didn't see look just amazing? She is quite a woman. Her voice is perfect and she looked perfect.

Anyway, down to business. 2 out of my 3 were in the bottom. Scott and Michael. Then Matt Giuard was added in. What the hell. Then Ryan told Scott to sit down. Are you freakin serious folks??

Matt was then told, after Stevie Wonder did a over 10 minute mini-concert and a long commercial break to sit down, he was safe.

Michael was sent packing and the judges did not spare him either.

36 million votes were in tallied this week. And my guy was next to last. This has to tell me that America does not know good talent. Maybe the girls were studying. Perhaps. But he will still be in the finals. Trust me.

Not sure on what the theme is next week. But will definitely keep you updated.

American Idol Motown Recap

Kinda tired tonight, so I will keep this kind of short ...

I thought tonight was great. Performances were good for the most part. As much as I liked Matt Giraud's performance, the performance of the night though went to Adam Lambert. He cleaned up his image and he shined on the stage. I thought it was neat how he did a complete 180 from last week. His performance was one of the best of the season so far. Nicely done.

Good morning. It is Wednesday and I have the day off work. So I am happy about that. Perhaps now I can get my taxes done. I know I need to do that. Last year, it was done by this time.

6) The former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich just can't keep his mouth shut. After he was impeached, he got a book deal. Now, yesterday, he filled in for WLS Radio host and he said that he was 'hijacked' out of office. Details from WBAY-TV - Green Bay, WI. Hijacked? Seriously?

7) FOXNews.com reports an interesting story here. How long does it take men to fall in love??? Amazingly, less than 10 seconds. Humm ...

8) The Patriot-News in Harrisburg has announced furloughs for all of it's full-time employees, and changes to their retirement savings plans. But it's not all doom-and-gloom. WGAL-TV in Lancaster, PA reports on a alternative MONTHLY newspaper that is striving. As much as I love WGAL, I think they need to stress more that being a MONTHLY newspaper is MUCH different than a daily paper. So, of course advertising papers would come in. No brainer.

9) Al Gore is putting the final touches on the heavily awaited follow-up book to 'An Inconvenient Truth'. It was supposed to come out a year ago, but now it will come out this fall. Story from The San Diego Union-Tribune - San Diego, CA.

Well let's try this 10 stories thing again. I hope that Safari and Google Reader acts nicely together for me to do this. I added even more RSS feeds that could be pulled up for any story, so that should be good.

1: We start this evening off with a writer that only writes good stories. Very good read. From KTRV-TV Nampa, ID.

2: Now an update on Lance Armstrong. Looks like he had a biking accident and he broke his collarbone. Now he had surgery. But the recovery looks positive. Details from KSWO-TV Lawton, OK.

3: Looks like polls are varied for President Obama. Zogby had his approval/popularity rating at 49%. Story from WHAM-TV Rochester, NY. Personally, I think it's WAY too early for this to happen, poll wise. Give the man at least a year before you make pointless polls.

4: An interesting article now from SF Weekly, San Francisco. They write about wether or not musicians should start twittering for their music fans. Interesting read.

5: As you know, Hurricane Ike ravaged Galveston, Texas last summer. Some areas are still a wasteland. However, that did not stop this year's college spring breakers. Businesses there said there was great business. Story from KFDA-TV Amarillo, TX.

6: Soon it will be the 20 year anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill up in Alaska. KTVA-TV in Anchorage, AK looks at that upcoming anniversary and investigate on wether or not it could happen again.

7: President Obama is scheduled to be the commencement speaker at Notre Dame University on May 17th. However, there are plenty of Catholics that are not liking this idea. And now the Bishop of South Bend, is planning on not attending. Details from CNN.

8: ABCNews.com takes an interesting look at the projects NASA would like to do in the years to come. Yes, it is the moon, and beyond. Great read.

10: Octomom has some of her kids home from the hospital, after she gave birth to 8 children. She got a new home, on our dollar and now another controversy is developing. Or is it unprofessional to have 8 kids, and then before that 6? Seriously.

Not sure if I would call this a gaffe or not. There are better words.

However, it is good to see that Obama realized that he made a mistake, and called the head of the Special Olympics before his appearance on The Tonight Show aired. This is a step in the right direction and I am glad he took responsibilty.

Ok ... everyone here knows I like the President and everything he has done lately. The President is taking some flack about going to California and going on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday night. I personally don't have a problem with it. But, I do have a problem about the 'Special Olympics' comment.

Obama's haters say that he is much different when the teleprompter is not there. I don't question that. Hell, we just survived 8 years of a brain-dead guy who didn't care about the American people.

But, as a person who not only once attend and participate Special Olympics, I do have some pointed opinions on Obama's Special Olympics comment. Sure, it was innocent. Sure, most would say I am looking at this WAY too much and taking it way too seriously. But I think the Special Olympics should not be mentioned and or teased.

Sure, his PR people apologized. But you know what? Obama should apologize himself. Sorry, this topic is way too touchy for someone one to apologize. Write my name down this morning as a bit disappointed.

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON IDOL ...

Country week is a tough week. And it was for all of the contestants. But it was surprisingly watchable.
Randy Travis was the mentor. Didn't his wife look scary btw?
I have the following in the bottom 3: Allison .... Adam ... Lil Rounds
Allison is picked for the bottom 3 because the song that she sung was a hard-core country song, but of course she put here rock edge to it. Not the thing to do.
Adam was picked (even though I am not comfortable nominating him) because of the song he sung, it was the most bizarre way of performing it. Ring of Fire is a great song. The Social Distortion version of the song is PRICELESS. However, Adam just did it just wow. Personally, I liked the song. I think he did great, but I really felt as if the crowd did not see it. Let's hope I'm wrong here.
Lil Rounds was picked because of it being the song that she did. Once she went to the chorus, she belted out the song great. But she was out of her element tonight, and I think that she will be in for a reality check soon.
Danny Gokey was also disappointing tonight and I think that his shine is starting to fade just a little bit. His song choice was absoltuely terrible, and a song I really really don't like. I think he will be safe, but I am starting to worry about him.
Anoop really did step up his game tonight, and I am happy for him. I think he will definately be safe, but will America agree???
I am starting to feel that Scott's shine is starting to fade too. I agreeded with Paula that perhaps the piano is starting to be a crutch. I really think that he needs to perform without the piano for a few weeks. Not to punish him keep in mind, but to show his range that he could have.
The person I really am starting to think is just great is Matt. He really showed his range. To be fair, perhaps he should perform next week without the piano. But you know what, Matt is really starting to be the person to beat. Last week, Randy Jackson said that last week, he sounded like Justin Timberlake. This week, Michael Buble .... what will it be next week??? Robin Thicke?! I hope so. I think Matt is the best person in the competition. Feel me, America?
How about Megan Joy?! I was really impressed that she was in the hospital with type B flu and she belted out that tune. She is an impressive girl and I think that she will stay for a while.
Kris did an alright job. I think it was strange that he rehersed with a guitiar and then performed on stage without it. I think that was a smart and great move. His voice is good as well.
Alexis was something else too. For a Dolly Parton looking girl, she certainly did good for her song. But maybe she will go home soon. But not this week.
And finally, Michael. I really did think he did alright. And I predicted that he would probably be the strongest person. However, my mom and cousin both think he might be gone. I tell you what, if he did, that would be a shame.

In conclusion, I think that Allison will be gone Wednesday night. Her time is done on Idol. She is only 16 years old. Her voice is not fully developed yet and I think she knows this. If that happens, I really don't think the judges will veto it either.

Hi all. Your trusty blogger is back with some things you need to know:

1) Apple Inc., today had a press conference/roundtable discussion informing us on the upcoming iPhone/iPod Touch 3.0 Software Update. This will be a major update for the powerful communication device, with over 100 new features. The major new features include true 'turn by turn GPS directions', a voice recorder, Spotlight search, among other great things. The update will ship this summer. It will be free for iPhone customers, and $9.95 for iPod Touch customers. Can't wait. The best is about to get better.

2) Don't forget that American Idol is tonight. Country music is the theme tonight (major sleep time) and Randy Travis is the mentor. Even though this is not my genra of music, I am planning on live tweeting the event (don't expect any high marks), although I may be a bit behind.

3) Speaking of Twitter, let me invite you again to my Twitter page. I am really getting hooked into this new method of social networking. But Twitter is much more than that. It is becoming the new way news and information is being sent out. I have twitter feeds to TV stations across the US. And the people following me is increasing. If I only had this on my blog. lol.

4) WGAL's 60th Anniversary is tomorrow, and tonight, they are offering a great way to see how TV news is done. Today, starting at 5, they are offereing 2 live video feeds offerring behind the scene access, and a webchat where you can post questions. Tomorrow, they will have a special 1 hour documentary on the history of the station, hosted by NBC's Williard Scott. WGAL is a pioneer in the television industry, and I wish them congratulations on this achievement.

5) Looks like New Line Cinema has given the green light for a 'MacGyver' movie. Oh yeah. The original 24 is going to be on the big screen. Awesomeness.

MENTOR: Randy Travis

WEDNESDAY NIGHT PERFORMER: Carrie Underwood duet with Randy Travis. Also performance by Brad Pasley.

I never been a fan of country music. I think that country music kills brain cells. And it often does. But we have to cater to all people and all tastes, so let's just keep our chins up, grin and bear it, and then on to better weeks.

I think most of the people in this competition will have trouble this week. Adam Lambert and/or Anoop will probably have the worst trouble this week. They just don't fit the country mold. And neither does the girls, and I think most of them will do poorly. Country is a hard genre, especially for this talented group. The guy who most likely will do well is Michael.

Let's see if I am right.

Another gem coming to Philly

Now a good post about Philadelphia.

Aside from it's lackluster sports history, Philadelphia is one of the greatest cities in America.

It's history is written in stone as the birthplace of the United States of America. It was the origin of American Bandstand. And who could forget the classic Philadelphia cheesesteak.

Well, another thing that Philadelphia is known for is it's skyline. Driving along the Schuykill River down the expressway (southbound at City Ave), you see your first glimpse of this majestic skyline. And it keeps getting better. Phillyskyline.com is an excellent resource and website that keeps you up-to-date with all the goings on, and is an amazing photo site.

But there is 2 high profile projects that are coming up for this skyline. First is the American Commerce Center, which will be taller than the Comcast Center, when it is completed in 2012. The one I want to focus on for his post however is Cira Centre South.

Case in point here from the classless Philadelphia Eagles.

A employee spouted off on Facebook about his disgust about the Brian Dawkins being taken by the Denver Broncos. He said that the Eagles organization has to be 'retarded' to let such a guy go.

Well, the Eagles organization found out about this, and was promptly let go from his position within the team.

Look, I know how people feel when their favorite player leaves a team you love (Terrell Owens/Buffalo Bills), but come on, have a sense of reality and logic. NOTHING on the internet is private these days. I personally feel that if you are in a high profile job or with a very public organziation, you need to keep your online presence to a bare minimum. This includes making silly comments on NFL players, and the TEAM YOU WORK FOR.

What an idiot.

But I can't be too surprised here ... We are talking about Philadelphia Eagles fans here. They operate with their brains not reaching the top floor.

Hello everyone and good evening.

1) Remember to turn your clocks 1 hour ahead tonight. SPRING FORWARD. Yeah, we lose and hour of sleep, but gain and hour of sunlight in the evening. I think that is a fair trade. Eh? Remember also to check the batteries of your fire/smoke alarm. This is very easy to do, only takes a few minutes. And the life you could be saving could be yours, or your loved ones. Please don't forget.

2) As I have written before on this blog nearly every week, the perils of the newspaper business continues with this downward economy. Some papers are not continuing. Word is that Seattle's Post-Intelligencer will become a 'web-only' newspaper like Boston's 'Christian Science Monitor'. To the people of Seattle, I am sorry that has to happen. But I rather have an online only newspaper than nothing at all. There will be newspapers that survive this slaughter. One way of doing this is by 'hyperlocalism'. That means an intense non-stop coverage of everything local. One newspaper that gets this is our hometown newspaper, The Patriot-News. At this link (make sure you download March 4th show), you will find a podcast of WITF's Smart Talk. They had Patriot-News Editor and Publisher John Kirkpatrick and the head executive of PNA (Pennsylvania Newspaper Assoication). The topic was the state of newspapers. If you have the hour, please check it out. You will not be disappointed. Newspapers are a vital and very important part of our history and communities. They must survive, and they will.

3) Well, how about American Idol. They now have a top 13 instead of 12. Which is good. I would have wished that Tatiana would have made it through. But we all can't get what we want. They signed him to a 1 year, close to a $7 mill contract. Not to bad of a payday.

I do wonder however .... why did they only do 1 year? Was it perhaps to see how he does in the new season? Or perhaps was it that they know they he waits to start drama until after the 2nd season?

Also, what an inappropiate comment in today's Patriot-News Sports Fan Line about T.O. "hey t.o.. Can you say, 'Welcome to Wal-Mart'". How rude. Classless. Wait, that must have been an Eagles fan.

Cowboys Release Terrell Owens

Rumored for weeks, but yet what I didn't want to see happen, the Dallas Cowboys late last night released WR Terrell Owens, after 3 years with the storied NFL team.

In a personal note, I feel that this is a very bad move for the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, T.O. was a loud mouth. But you know what? He was passionate about his team. He was passionate about us getting to the Super Bowl next year. And now, at least that will happen without him. He was my favorite player on the team. It is almost like I am in mourning today.

As I mentioned above, this was rumored for weeks. However, I didn't think that Jerry Jones would be so foolish to at least indulge possibly letting such a talent go. Now, T.O. can go anywhere. I really doubt that he would go to Philly, considering the history he has with them. Same with the Giants. My prediction: I think the Oakland Raiders might be interested in him, and perhaps, just perhaps the Washington Redskins.

Finally on this topic before I close, I think that Jerry Jones really needs to explain in depth and without BS why he decided to do this. Reaction this morning from Dallas fans within the big D area has been overwhelming positive and happy over this move. Is there something I'm missing here? Until Jerry explains himself, I have a feeling that he have just shot ourselves in the foot in this. And I also think that we will maybe in the long run regret this decision. I hope I'm wrong.

Hi all.

Sorry for not posting much this week. First busy week back at work since my week vacation. So, been busy with that.

1) Well, my Sony Erikson phone died this week. The video display on the phone started acting weird. I couldn't upgrade with my phone until May. Well, I was not going to wait until May to get a new phone. So, I splurged and finally got my iPhone. So far, I am pleasantly pleased with the quality of the phone. Voice/call quality is just amazing. I am deciding to sell my iPod Touch to a good friend of mine and then with my tax refund, I will bascially write off this expense. So, not worried about that.

2) My friend Tony, who had the 'Incredible Dallas Cowboys' blog as branched out to a new blog: Raw Coffee. It is a very nice blog that talks about various and all kinds of topics. Make sure you check it out.

3) Winter weather may not be done with us quite yet. We might get some mix overnight Saturday into the first part of Sunday. Then another event Monday into Tuesday. But hey, wasn't yesterday just beautiful? We need more days into the 60s.

4) It is very nice to see that President Obama is taking a stand and setting a firm timetable on the exit of our troops in Iraq. I also found it quite humorous and fitting that he had to call '43' to let him know what he is doing as well. Sometimes, you just need to call the person who got it wrong, to say that now things are going to be done just right.

5) I find it quite distrubing that our new President has been in office just more than a month and the Republican party is already looking forward to the election in 2012. First, Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal gave a Republican responce to President Obama's semi-SOTU, then had had the gull to say these two words, "hurricane Katrina" with a smile on his face. Now, Republican nutjobs are together this weekend for a conference. They will decide what to do then do a poll to project who will be the presidential hopefuls in 2012. How sad. Now, if it was the other way around, do you really think the Democrats would be doing this??? I think not.

6) Philadelphia Eagles fans are in disaray and saddness after numerous media outlets said last night that longtime Eagles player Brian Dawkins is going to the Broncos. An announcement is expected today that he will sign a 2-year deal with the rising Denver Broncos. This story from KYW-TV Philadelphia. And with that, the mass exit of players from the Eagles begin. Mark my words, they will hardly be a team when the new season arrives. All the better for my beloved Cowboys.

7) Sad news to report as Ed McMahon is in the hospital. Looks like he has been there for the past 3 weeks. If you click the link, you will learn that now supposedly he has bone cancer. Not good. He is quite a person. And what a voice.

That is all I have for now. Gotta head out and get my grandmother a gift for her birthday party tomorrow. Then going to the Hershey Bears hockey game later tonight. Well have a great day.

T.I. and Maury Povich

What do they have in common?

Easy .... the new MTV reality show, T.I.: Road to Redemption.

In a cliff note sized summary, T.I. was arrested back in 2008 when he asked one of his security men to buy guns for him. Well, the cops came and T.I. was arrested. T.I. was given a plea bargin: Either do 1,000 hours of community service and 1 year in jail, or do 30 years in jail. T.I. chose the first choice. Knowing that T.I. is still screwed, he also enlisted MTV to make a program asking him to help at risk youth at deaths door.

Now, perhaps this is a good thing. And most people will think it will be. But let's be realistic. All T.I. wants is to have positive press time and people time before he goes to the big house.

Sure, I like T.I.'s music and this is nothing against him. But sorry man, you are suffering from the Maury Povich syndrome. "Oh yes, I'll change" ... yeah, "for today". I have only seen one show of T.I.'s new series, so I can only hope I'm wrong.

But sorry, I'm probably right. 5 years from now, I hope when I look back at this post, I'm wrong. But I don't think so.

Hello everyone.

First of all, my apologies for not posting much this week. You would think that if I had a full week off from work that I would post more, but I got that nasty flu/cough bug that has been going around. Been in bed for better part of 2 days. I hope you guys don't get this bug. What a nasty way to spend a week off work. But I do feel a bit better and I hope to get some things done today.

I have 2 links to share with you today. First of all, the drama with Chris Brown and Rihanna continues to go down. And as if it can't get worse, looks like celeb gossip site, TMZ.com released more pics of Rihanna. I will not post the photo on here, but it is quite disturbing and alarming. Here is the AP story about it.

Also, WGAL is staring a really neat story sharing idea for it's news. Most news organizations have morning news meetings, in the newspaper business it is called 'budget meetings'. Well, WGAL is opening the meetings to it's viewers. At this link, you can view live chat with the meeting. I viewed the transcript for the past 2 days or so and it's pretty neat. DTV Transistion Update: 2/13/2009

As you know the FCC is now telling stations that even though they want to switch to all digital on the 17th, they can't. The FCC says that they have to prove without any doubt that there will be no customers inconvienced by the switch.

Well, the Assoicated Press now has an article in where it lists the stations who will not comply with the FCC order and still go digital on the 17th. The only SusquValley stations that are going all digital on the 17th is WITF, the PBS station, and WLYH, the CW station. All the rest, are waiting til June. Amazingly though, to our northeast the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area, the ABC, CBS and NBC stations are all going digital. It must be because of the tower damage they had from a ice storm last winter.

Anyway, make sure you check this list. Is your station on it? If it is, make sure you get your converter box, now.

American idol Top 36 announced!

Well, good evening. If you are a HUGE American Idol fan, then you need to read this. American Idol Top 36 has been announced!

I was at a special screening for a movie tonight, so I had to DVR it. Even that did not go through correctly, as only half of the two hour show was DVR'ed.

BREAKING: Sirius/XM to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Looks like the marriage of Sirius/XM is in serious jeopardy today. The ONLY satellite radio company in America is filing for Chapter 11. I really knew this was going to happen. I never was a fan of the merger. Plus, the technology has not really taken off enough for it to be really profitable. I also think the mass exodus of subscribers has lead to this as well.

R.I.P. XM radio. This was the stronger of the two, but no, they didn't listen. Maybe now Sirius will.

Close to a week?!

Please someone tell me that it almost hasn't been a week that I didn't post?! Shame on me. Sorry folks. Been busy with personal life and such so now the only time I seem to post is on my lunch break. Oh wells, sometime life is like that.

Hope everyone is well. Just a few random points I like to point out, then you all can be on your way.

1) Looks like Punxy Phil is wrong. After a high of 57 and upper 50's for the past few days, looks like a early spring as sprung. And tomorrow (on my day off, love it!), it will be a high of 62. Oh yeah. Loving it.

2) KTVT-TV in Dallas/Fort Worth has a very nice interview with Tony ROMO, who states that the Dallas Cowboys crew next year, will be different and that 'we have the chance to do something great'. Tony knows it, I know it, the whole Dallas Cowboys nation knows it. Next year will be different. We can get 6 Super Bowls too. We will not be denied. Maybe, just maybe that Super Bowl trophy can be the great last minute, last chance house warming gift, eh?! Oh yeah. Believe fans, believe.

3) How about this drama with Chris Brown now? His career is now offically over. I know that people fight, but when you put your hands on a woman who is defenseless, there is no excuse for this. And guess what, from now on, he will be known as a woman-beater. Sorry about being blunt there, but it is the truth. There is no one who can come back to the music industry or the entertainment industry when something like this happens. Do I feel bad for Chris Brown? Eh, maybe just a little. But what he did was unexcuseable. Simply that.

Brian Roche on News 8 @ 5:30 this evening reported that ALL of the area TV stations will go digital on June 12th, and NONE will go make the switch digitally early.

Good afternoon all ...

Just a few thoughts this afternoon:

1) Looks like stupidity rules and the DTV deadline is pushed back until June. All is not lost though. Up to 1/3 of all US stations are planning to defy the ruling and flip anyway to digital on February 17th. Good for them. No word as of yet on if any Susquehanna Valley TV stations will do this, but don't be surprised.

2) Etta James is mad at Beyonce. Or is it more like jealous? She is upset that Beyonce sung her big song 'At Last' and Obama's big day 2 weeks ago. My feelings ... get over it. If you don't like her, so be it. But why not you do it yourself?

3) American Idol is full gear this week as we just completed the first round of Hollywood week. I don't think the Osmond guy needed or leave, or the guy that was the high school president. Oh, and the bikini girl is gone too. Oh well. We still have a good year coming. At least we saw my girl Alexis Cohen from Allentown this year. You Go Girl!

4) A MUST-READ article about the future of newspapers, from Time Magazine. More, perhaps HOW to save your local newspapers. Any person, like me, or perhaps you who loves your newspaper in the morning, needs to read this article.

and finally ...

5) How about those nightly snow bursts we have been getting, eh? First it was Wednesday, where Lititz, Lancaster County recieved a cool foot of snow. Now parts of the midstate woke up to 3 inches, like me in West Hanover Twp., Dauphin County. I don't know about you, but I want spring now! Good news is that we will get a nice preview of that, as Sunday's high should flirt 50 degrees, or maybe higher.

Back to the Grind ...

Well good morning everyone.

Sorry I didn't post a Phil in review post last night. Once '24' was done, I was out. But I am back. I hope to do a decent size post right now.

Arrived at Clearfield Sunday around 1:30 or so. Once I unpacked and everything, then headed to Punxy. Punxstauwney, PA is in Jefferson County, PA. About 60 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Punxy is a very nice small town. And it all revolves around the groundhog, Phil. They make him out to be more or less like a god in that town. Now, not saying that is a bad thing or something, it's just different to see. Punxy has a nice town square. At the library, they have a 'groundhog zoo'. 365 days a year, Phil is there. In his natural habitit. There was vendors all over the town. They were even selling, 'Shadow Towels', a neat and interesting rip-off of the Terrible Towel.

Went back to the hotel then. Watched as the Pittsburgh Steelers came back with less than a minute in the game to become the first NFL team to win 6 Super Bowls. A brief opinion about this ... Good for them. But do they really need a 2-hour-delay for schools the next day? And do they really need to say they are 'Six-burgh'? I think not. Hey Pittsburgh ... just wait til Dallas gets 6. Then we will be 'Six-allas'. Better yet, just wait til we get 7 and 8. But really, in a good attempt to be nice ... congrats. As for the ads, I thought they were bascailly ok. My fav was the Doritios ad where the guy throws the crystal ball at the vending machine. Very funny. And yes, that was voted the best on the USA Today ad meter.

Then woke up at 2:45 in the morning. Began the trek to Gobblers Knob. This is one of the best experiences that you can do in your lifetime. I suggest that everyone does it at least once. Got into town around 4:30 AM. Paid $5 for shuttle transportation. State Police and National Guard kept very good crowd control. There was up to 15,000 people at Gobblers Knob. The Knob is a field with a slight hill and that is where Phil makes his winter weather guess. Everyone was having much fun. There was one jerk with one of those horns that were blowing it every 30 seconds for the better part of 2 hours. Other than that, what a morning.

Afterwards, went back to the hotel, had their breakfast. Then headed back home. Made a pit-stop at State College. Got some ice cream at the Creamery (nice place), then went home.

Overall, it was a nice trip. I really needed to get out and get away. Just what I needed.

Another winter storm & movie suggestion

Good afternoon.

As of now, plans are still for me to see the Groundhog early Monday morning. But, I am getting a little nervous since we have a new winter storm arriving. Latest check at the forecast says that the snow should start Monday afternoon, start to pick up even more Monday night and lasting into Tuesday. So, hopefully snow will not affect me seeing this event again, as it did last year. Stay tuned ...

Also, watched my first DVD from Netflix last night. Watched 'Mirrors' with Kiefer Sutherland. Very good film. Good thriller as well. And a ending you won't see a mile away. Definitely check it out. Now, as for my experience so far with Netflix, I have to say so far I am pleased. The DVD played in my player with hardly any skips, and if it happened, it just did for less than a second. Returning the DVD is easy too, just seal it and ship. Next movie in my queue: Lakeview Terrace with Sanuel L. Jackson.

Will keep you up to date with any updates on this latest winter storm. But Sunday should be nice, with high of 43 predicted.

Random Thoughts ... 1/28/2009

Good evening everyone.

Looks like we have survived the latest winter storm. Currently in Harrisburg it is Partly Cloudy and 31 degrees. Watch out for re-freezing tonight. Just moved my car and that was a little struggle. But got that taken care of.

Just a few thoughts I have this evening and I will let all of you go :)

1) I am proud to announce that I will be at Punxy for Groundhog Day come Monday. I don't know how I will do it, but I plan on live blogging this event in some fashion. More on that this weekend. It has been a few years since I been to Punxy and it will be a good time. I highly suggest all of you to take a pilgrimage to see Phil at least once in your life. More on that in a good sized essay come Monday.

2) Glad to see that the DTV deadline will still be in February. Maybe now people will get their butts into gear.

The US House of Representatives has shot down the Senate bill, trying to delay the DTV conversion.

Good job. This may be the only time I agree with Republicans. So, take note, This is a rare thing.

Disappointed in the FCC ...

Good evening.

So, one of this evening's lead stories is the topic of this brief editorial. Looks like the US Senate has approved this evening the digital television deadline be EXTENDED until June 12th, 2009. It was originally to be done by 2/17/2009. They say the reason for this is because there is millions of Americans are not ready still for the transition to digital television.

This is a bad decision for television stations across America. Millions have been spent already on this. Stations like WGAL have done excellent work in preparing Susquehanna Valley television watchers for this. Keep in mind, we have been getting ready for this for nearly 2 years! The laziness of a few is keeping us from fully getting this done.

They say that perhaps as 10% of people are still not ready, mostly being low-income and elderly people. Let me be frank about this, I really doubt these people even if time was extended will do this transition. Nothing against them, but if they had all this time to get ready and they didn't get ready, what makes you think they will now?

The article I linked also mentioned that as many as 3 million people are still waiting on the coupons. OK. So they are still waiting. They will get their coupons soon. But still, why did they have to apply for coupons so late?

Personally, I have been DTV ready since April 2008. I have my satellite TV ready to go, and I have my antenna set up separately if I wanted true HD programming.

Why I am do also so disappointed in this is because WHP-TV will not be avaliable to me over the air digital until June. Most would think that if I live 10 miles from the tower, that I should get their HD signal. Not so. The FCC reports that WHP's analog signal is very very strong, and their digital signal is very weak. So now, I will have to wait until June to see my CBS shows I like, including My Network TV 21.2.

All because some people delayed making this choice. Gee, thanks a lot. Now, get your butts into gear.

Finally, it is my hope that television markets and stations across the nation make their own decision when to post-transition. Some markets could go now, if they really wanted to. It is also my hope that family members help out other family members that are confused or need to convert over. Once people realize how much better digital TV is, they will wonder why they didn't go before.

So, for those who are delaying this ... Thanks alot for delaying the future.
