10 Stories .... 12/10/08

Good morning.

Looks like a good soaking of rain today, and highs in the mid 50's.  And an update on the next winter storm:  Areas north of Harrisburg, will be in a Winter Storm watch Thursday going into Friday.  Around here, they will probably issue a Winter Weather Advisory coming later today.  And a mixed bag will be happening around here.  Stay tuned, I think it will only get more ugly, before it gets better.

Now, onto today's 10:

Story 1 ...
Most of us try to save money online by reserving hotel rooms via online merchants.  Well, Baltimore feels that they are not being paid hotel taxes via this method, and they want paid.  This story from WBFF-TV, Baltimore.

Story 2 ...
Looks like Office Depot will close 150 stores across the nation next year.  No word yet if any stores in the Susquehanna Valley will be closed.  Details now from KMTV-TV, Omaha, NE.

Story 3 ...
In a very surreal and sad sign of the times, more and more churches are using hidden cameras and GPS to watch over the Baby Jesus and nativity scenes at churches across the nation.  This story from KVIA-TV, El Paso, TX.

Story 4 ...
First, there was a leap year .... now a leap SECOND?  That's right, we have to wait 1 extra second for New Years this year.  Story from KOAA-TV, Pueblo, CO.

Story 5 ...
As you know, the Illionis Gov. was arrested yesterday under federal corruption charges.  Well, what sucks is that today is his birthday.  Not good at all.  Story from KTVI-TV, St. Louis, MO.

Story 6 ...
Most of you who watched the 'OC' may have heard the term 'Chrismuccah', a made up alternative for those who live in multi-religious families.  Well, one pastor in Nevada, has made up a 'Alternative Christmas' for those who feel left out of religion.  This interesting story from The Record-Courier, Gardenerville, NV.

Story 7 ...
The Mega Millions jackpot now jumps up to over $200 million.  That will certainly be a very good Christmas gift for anyone lucky enough to win it now.  Details from Lansing State Journal, Lansing, MI.

Story 8 ...
U.K. announces that most remaining troops will leave Iraq soon.  Details from The New York Times, New York, NY.

Story 9 ...
In a great move that will help impact commerce and travel in Northern Baltimore, York based Rabbit transit will begin bus service to Hunt Valley, MD, and points along Northern Baltimore.  This story from Baltimore Messenger, Baltimore, MD.

Story 10 ...
Remember that glittery glove that Michael Jackson wore on his 1983 video 'Billie Jean'?  Well next year, it will be up for auction.  This story from The Sacramento Bee, Sacramento, CA.

And finally this hump-day, Wednesday:  A surreal and sobering op-ed from the great and smart columnist, Amy Goodman.  She is one of the 2 hosts of FSTV's Democracy Now.  She wrote a column about the U.S. Government and torture.  According to a former U.S. interrogator, torture has now killed more people that were killed on 9/11.  This story from the awesome website, alternet.org.

Have a great day.  Stay dry out folks.  Will try to post a weather update on this active weather later today.
