10 Stories 12/18/2008

Good evening.

Here is tonight's stories ...

Story 1:
I wonder what Frank Sinatra would think or what Wayne Newton is thinking when Las Vegas got snow yesterday.  First time in over 30 years.  Story from KWCH-TV Hutchison, KS.  So far, this late fall/early winter season as been crazy.  And I don't think it's over quite yet.

Story 2:
I heard of some crazy ways to save money on electric bills, but this is going a little bit too far.  Rumor is that state workers in Arizona are working in the dark.  Details from KNXV-TV Phoenix, AZ.

Story 3:
Gay people are having trouble understanding President-Elect Barack Obama's choice of Rick Warren to give the prayer at the inauguration.  Story from KABC-TV Los Angeles, CA.

Story 4:
In a interesting story that broke today, a small plane made a crash landing into the guardrail of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, near Carlisle, Cumberland County.  Details on this story and amazing pictures from WHP-TV Harrisburg, PA.

Story 5:
So, let me get this straight .... Bush lied about Iraq, and he ruined our legendary tip top perception of us around the world.  So, now, only weeks before he leaves office, he plotted a way to permanently destroy our economy.  And that would be to simply self-destruct our economy by having a 'orderly' bankruptcy of the auto industry.  Great plan.  NOT.  Story and details from WNCT-TV Greenville, NC.

Story 6:
Who in their right mind would do something like this?  A Pennsylvania woman gave kittens piercings on their eyes, neck and tails.  This creepy story from The News-Press - Fort Myers, FL.

Story 7:
Here is some out-of-state perspective of the Joe Paterno's new contract.  This viewpoint/commentary from Abilene Reporter-News - Abilene, TX.

Story 8:
I tend not to post 2 stories from the same newspaper in a 10 story post, but I could not pass  up on this story.  Looks like CBS and Turner Corp., is interested in making a pitch to broadcast the 2014 and 2016 Olympics.  Story and details from Abilene Reporter-News - Abilene, TX.  Personally, NBC does the coverage the best.  Sorry CBS and Turner.

Story 9:
So far, this holiday season, sales are up for Blackberry's.  Details from The Wall Street Journal - New York, NY.  I've had a Blackberry before.  Pretty nice phones.  But I would still prefer an iPhone.

Story 10:
And finally, a sad passing to report.  Majel Roddenberry, wife of Gene Roddenberry  has died.  She as been referred to as "The first lady of Star Trek".  She was the voice of the computer in Star Trek series' and played roles in the show as well.  She was 76.  Godspeed. Story from The Deseret Morning News - Salt Lake City, UT.

And finally a weather update.  I really don't think this next storm will be all that bad.  However, another Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7AM to 11PM Friday.  Precip should start around sunrise, as snow.  A fast change-over then should come and by noon or so, it should be all rain.  Sunday might be another story as we just might get some accumulating snows just in time for Christmas.  I will keep you up to date.  I would also like to let you know that WGAL redesigned their online weather page.  Check it out here.  The page has a nice drag and drop and moveable boxes that you can have what info you want and the screen.  However, I don't like all that Adobe Flash technology.  Makes web pages slow.  But nice design.  Kudos to WGAL.

Remember, I will try to post weather updates tomorrow as I can.  Another 10 stories blog comes later Friday.  Take care.
