Weather Update

Well, the winter event that we are in is still continuing.  Roads are slush covered on the main roadways (US 22 and 39) ... and slush and snow covered on the minor roads.  If you are home, stay home this evening.  And if you work tomorrow (not me, thankfully) then be careful.  I think it will be a rough time heading into the city tomorrow.

...Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST Wednesday... A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST Wednesday. Mixed precipitation continues this evening...and is expected to change to mainly freezing rain overnight. The heavier sleet and freezing rain along the Turnpike and points south will continue for at least the first half of the night. This area should expect the precipitation to gradually change to more rain with pockets of freezing rain...as the temperatures rise slightly overnight. Ice accretions should stay less than a quarter of an inch in most places...but some isolated spots may receive a little more than this. The sleet and light snow over the central and northern counties will turn to mainly freezing rain or drizzle with only pockets of sleet or snow lingering. Ice accretions should be a tenth of an inch or less...with isolated spots picking up a little more. The threat overnight is mainly for the freezing rain and drizzle to accumulate on surfaces and roadways. Little additional snowfall will accumulate...and what is on the ground may compact and become slushy as the rain and sleet fall in to it. The precipitation should change to mainly rain right as it tapers off around or just after sunrise Wednesday. Just a few snow showers are expected over the western Highlands late Wednesday morning and into the afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow...sleet...or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving. Motorists should be especially cautious on bridges and overpasses...where slippery spots develop first. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite source of weather information for the latest updates. Additional details can also be found at... weather.Gov/statecollege. More later ....
